Eyes - structure & reflection

Principle: Plane change causes value change

Highlight and reflected light are light reflected by the object, bringing us value(brightness) change, hence showing us plane change.

Therefore, you can use light to create structure.

Hair - Analogous palette

Hue = Red/Blue/Green etc

local colour = blue

approaching light -> greener

approaching shadow -> more purple

reflected light -> also purple but brighter

Reason: background is purple-ish, purple light hits areas where the primary light from the left is not prominent.

Bright and purple fringe

Reason:

1. to suggest the thin layer of hair. Forehead colour mixes with hair colour, making it more dynamic.

2. to attract more attention because it is brighter and cause contrast with the dark blue hair.

Pushing the value(brightness) of the purple reflected light so much that it looks like there is a purple secondary light source.

Reason: it's cool

Crown - highly reflective nature of metal

Crown is round(unlimited amount of flat planes facing different directions) + shinny metal reflects so much light

Therefore, the light and shadow contrast is huge.

Even the reflected lights are substantial.

Clothes & Stuffed pig - the Color ball tactics

Decide 4-5 colours on

1. Light areas

2. Mid tone(when the light area is turning to a shadow area)

3. Shadow areas

4. Reflected light

5. Highlight

Leg - Dynamic shadow

Faint purple light in the dark orange shadow.

Reason:

1. Create temperature change

2. Suggest environment light

Therefore, more interesting.

Summary

When you think of the fundamental principle, colour equals light, the options are boundless. The possibility is unlimited when it comes to painting shadows because you can practically have anything in the background, allowing the shadow to turn into whatever colour you like, as long as you keep the value in check. You can go as far as your creativity allows you to.

The more you know about the structure, the better the decision you can make because remember plane change is going to affect the value, potentially, the hue, intensity of the color, things we just talked about. Good luck.
