When creating logos in CLIP STUDIO PAINT (hereafter referred to as Clip Studio),

many of you might be thinking, "If only vector layers could be filled..."

As of 2024, Clip Studio does not support vector fills like drawing software.

Therefore, to color a logo, you need to draw lines on a vector layer, then create a raster layer and fill it.

However, this method can be quite time-consuming for editing.

So, some of you might be using other drawing software specifically for logo creation.

That's when I thought of using Clip Studio's Speech Bubble tool!

With the Speech Bubble tool, you can create line art and fills simultaneously, and editing is not difficult, allowing you to create logos with the same feel as drawing software.

By using it in conjunction with the Ruler tool, Gradient tool, etc., you can create various logos like the one in the thumbnail!

This time, I'll introduce a TIP for creating logos with the Speech Bubble tool.

First, display Window → Sub Tool Detail and set the drawing color and background color.

The line color of the speech bubble tool will be the drawing color, and the fill color will be the background color.

Let's try drawing a heart with the Curve Speech Bubble tool.

Since all vertices are curved, switch corner to make it heart-shaped.

Select a vertex, right-click, and switch corner.

This will add sharp corner vertices like in the thumbnail, so adjust the shape using the Operation tool or Correct Line tool → Control Point addition.

Also, change the brush shape and brush size as needed.

To cut out a shape, use the Speech Bubble Tail tool.

Adjust its shape using the Operation tool or Correct Line tool.

If you place it overlapping with another shape, you can cut it out as shown in the thumbnail.

Also, in Sub Tool Detail, you can switch between Line + Fill, Line only, and Fill only.

By using the Ruler tool and Speech Bubble Pen tool together, you can draw symmetrical shapes, perfect circles, and more.

You can add patterns like the one in the thumbnail using the Manga Gradient tool.

Clip with the shape drawn by the Speech Bubble tool and apply a gradient.

Then, in the Layer Property of the Manga Gradient layer, you can change colors, convert to screentone, or add borders.

The Manga Gradient tool is also recommended because you can freely edit the direction and orientation of the gradient later.

I tried creating logos like the ones below using the Speech Bubble tool.

They are created in vector format (the first large wave logo was created by combining the Speech Bubble tool and the Text tool).
