How to Draw Beautiful Starry Eyes ☆ Complete Multi-step Tutorial
Sketching the Eye Shape
First, use a pencil-like brush to define the eye shape.
After defining the shape, refine the details.
At this point, I'll also separate the layers into eyelashes and eyeballs.
(Note: The eyeball line art in this tutorial is for reference only)
Applying a Base Color
I usually start by filling in the main mid-tone color.
Lower the opacity of the eyeball line art.
Adjust the shape of the color block.
Then lock the opacity of the eyeball's base color to prevent coloring outside the lines.
Now you can start coloring!~
(The middle pupil layer here is separate)
Choose a darker color based on the base color to layer on top.
I personally think that when choosing shadow colors,
shifting the hue slightly towards warmer tones looks better.
For example,
if it's blue, shift it slightly towards purple.
If it's yellow, shift it slightly towards orange.
This will look better than simply choosing a darker shade of the same color.
The image below shows an example with a darker shade of the same color.
Compared to the previous image, adding some color variation makes it look richer and more appealing.
Let's continue.
Adding Details
Choose a bright color you like for the highlight.
My method is to draw a line with a G-pen on the upper layer
and spray a round dot with an airbrush on the lower layer.
Any highly luminous color can be chosen for the highlight.
This time I chose pink.
Then, use a slightly darker color to draw the border and eyelash shadows.
Add details to the pupil.
Apply a slightly darker bright color to the center
and a slightly darker shadow color to the surroundings.
Slightly refine some light and shadow shapes and add more color.
After that, I'll start coloring the eyelashes.
The eyelashes will be layered with a color darker than the eyes.
Add details along the shape of the eyelashes using a purplish-gray tone.
Lightly apply the eye color with an airbrush at the base of the eyelashes to make their colors more consistent.
Add details around the eyeball.
Use an airbrush to add various colors in a dot-like manner.
Apply a highly saturated color for the eyelash highlights.
If it feels too vibrant, just lightly apply a darker color around it with an airbrush.
Leave the center as is to maintain color variation.
Lightly spray reddish tones on both sides with an airbrush.
This can blend better with the skin tone and enhance color richness.
Finishing Touches
Draw highlight dots on a new layer.
Lower the opacity of the highlight.
Applying color in the center with an airbrush will create a hazy effect.
Color the whites of the eyes and the double eyelid line.
Duplicate the eyeball layer, place it underneath, and apply a Gaussian blur to create a soft, blurred edge.
At this point, I want to add some details.
I'll add a color dodge layer
and draw circles around the eyes with some special brushes.
This time I used the 'Rounded Corner Scatter' brush.
Adjust the opacity and color.
Also add some pupil highlights.
Color around the eyes to add a sense of depth.
Add some scattered particles to create a starry sky effect.
This is pretty much it.
However, more details can still be hidden.
I'll draw some patterns using highly saturated colors, around 50%.
Some can also be hidden in the eyelashes.
