Use the snap feature for aligning and transforming objects! Ver. 4.0
This feature is only available in Studio Mode. It is not available in Simple Mode.
In Ver. 4.0, you can now snap to the canvas edge and inner border.
You can also snap between objects such as vector objects, text, image material layers, frame borders, and control points.
By using the snap function, you can intuitively line up different elements.
Try it out when designing layouts and adjusting objects.
Using the new snap feature
Snap to the canvas edge or inner border
Turn on Snap to canvas edge/inner border.
Turning Snap frames to canvas edge/inner border off allows raster layers and objects to snap along the inner border and canvas.
Snap objects together
Turn on Snap to objects.
Snap control points together
Turn on Snap to control points.
Note: To snap illustrations or images
If you want to snap the drawing of a raster layer to another raster layer, or snap from other layers to the drawing of a raster layer, convert it to an Image material layer or a Vector layer from the Layer menu > Convert Layer to enable snapping.
What you can do with the new snap feature
Guides will appear when you move objects or control points and snap them, allowing you to evenly arrange your drawing or align them to the center.
- You can snap between multiple objects within a single layer, like in vector layers or text layers.
- When you use commands such as Edit menu > Transform > Scale/Rotate on a raster layer, you can snap to another layer by dragging the guides.
You can snap between control points that appear when selecting lines or rulers with the Object sub tool.
You can only snap to the control point at the ends or corners.
You can also snap the handles displayed during the following transformations:
- Edit menu > Transform > Free Transform and Mesh Transform
- When Free Transform is set under Transformation Method with the Object sub tool
These object handles and control points can now also snap to rulers, guides, and grids.
Snap to objects
Snap to objects is useful when arranging and transforming on multiple layers, such as vector layers, image material layers, and text layers.
You can also use it for arranging and transforming lines drawn on vector layers or multiple texts within text layers.
Enabling Snap to objects allows you to use it for the following purposes:
- Align objects to the center, top, and bottom.
- Arrange multiple objects with equal spacing.
- Align the width and height with another object when transforming.
When using Edit menu > Transform, it snaps to other handles in addition to the object.
You can snap to objects when using Edit menu > Transform on a raster layer.
Show snap guides
It’s helpful to display guide lines for snapping when aligning the position and size of objects.
To display guides, go to View menu > Snap and turn on Show guides while snapping.
Drag the object you want to place when using tools such as the Object sub tool. Guides appear in the following cases:
- When the gap between objects on the left and right or top and bottom are in the same position or size.
- When the left and right or top and bottom gaps are in the same position and size for overlapping objects.
- When the edges or center of another object align with the edges or center of the object that is being moved.
- When both sides of an object on the left and right or top and bottom become the same width or height.
Snap to control points
You can snap control points together using vector layers, balloon layers, frame border folders, rulers, special rulers, and more.
Snapping will occur as follows when moving control points with the Object sub tool or Control point sub tool:
- When moving only one control point, it will be placed so that it is directly above, below, or to the side of a neighboring control point.
- When moving multiple control points, they will be arranged so that they are directly above, below, or next to neighboring control points.
You can only snap to the control points at the ends or corners.
Also, snapping will occur as follows when using the Object sub tool or the Control point sub tool to move control points created with cubic Bezier curves:
- When moving a directional point, it will be placed so that it is directly above, below, or to the side the anchor point connected to that directional point.
- When moving through an anchor point, it will be placed on the tangent (straight line formed by the anchor point and the direction point) of the adjacent anchor point.
Displaying guides will make it easier to align the position when snapping. Please refer to "Show snap guides" for information on how to display them.
Snap to the ruler or grid
During transformation, you can snap the displayed handles and control points to the ruler and grid.
To snap to the ruler or grid, go to View menu > Snap > and turn on Snap to ruler, Snap to special rulers, and Snap to grid.
Perspective ruler
When selecting an image material layer or using the Edit menu > Transform command, you can snap the handles to the perspective ruler. Transform the image to align with the perspective.
It’s recommended to set the transformation method to Free transform so that you can move it to fit the ruler for each handle. If the grid of the perspective ruler is displayed, you can snap to the grid.
Control points on vector layers can also snap to perspective rulers. Straight lines or curves will pass through the control points at the corners and ends of the selected vectors or rulers.
Symmetrical ruler
When drawing on a vector layer with a symmetry ruler, you can also snap transformation and control point operations using the Object sub tool. You can also edit control points using the Control point sub tool.
However, snapping will be disabled if you have moved or transformed the drawing without snapping to the ruler, causing the symmetrical ruler-drawn content to become asymmetrical.
Parallel line ruler
You can snap to the direction of the parallel line ruler or vertically when rotating with the Object sub tool, Text sub tool, or Light table sub tool.
- You can also snap to the parallel line ruler when rotating using each of the menu commands in the Edit menu > Transform.
- When you select Mesh Transformation, you can snap to a parallel line ruler even when selecting multiple control points for rotation.
Special ruler
The control points of vector layers can snap to straight lines and curves in shapes along parallel line rulers, parallel curve rulers, radial line rulers, radial curve rulers, and concentric circle rulers.
Straight lines or curves will pass through the control points at the corners and ends of the selected vectors or rulers.
Standard ruler
You can snap control points and objects of vector layers and so on to the ruler.
Guides and grids
Control points and objects in vector layers and so on can snap to guides and grids.
You can also snap to raster layers and layer masks.
When snapping to guides or grids, snapping will occur as follows:
- If guides are displayed, snapping will occur along the guides on the left and right.
- If the grid is displayed, snapping will occur along the grid points on the left and right.
Snap to canvas edge/inner border
When drawing lines along the inner border or canvas edge, or placing objects such as balloons, go to View menu > Snap > and turn on Snap to Canvas/Inner Border.
You can also snap to the trim margin and the inner border of the canvas and frame.
By turning off Snap frames to canvas edge/inner border under the View menu > Snap, you can snap along to raster layers, various object inner borders, and the canvas.
In order to prevent the sub tools of the Balloon group of the Figure tool and Comic tool from snapping to the inner border and canvas edge, go to View menu > Snap and turn on Snap frames to canvas edge/inner border.
When you can't snap
If you are unable to snap objects or control points, or if you cannot draw by snapping to the ruler, check the settings of the ruler and each tool.
Ruler settings
If Snap lines to selected rulers in the Tool Property palette is off, please turn it on.
Object settings
If Enable snapping in the Correction category of the Sub Tool Detail palette is off, please turn it on.
You can enable snapping when moving or transforming using the Object sub tool, Text sub tool, Control point sub tool, or Light table sub tool, you can set it in the Sub Tool Detail palette.
Turn on Enable snapping, then select the vector layer, balloon layer, frame border folder, ruler, or text with the Object sub tool. This will display a snap frame inside the guides for transformation.
You can also adjust settings in the Sub Tool Detail palette when executing each command under Edit menu > Transform.
Also, you can set Enable snapping for brushes such as the Pen tool, and rulers such as the Figure tool.
