How to draw realistic eyes
Hello, this is Ha-Ya. Today, I will teach you step-by-step how to draw realistic eyes.
STEP 1. Create the basic shape
First, let's simply define the basic shape as a polygon.
We're going to draw the pupils inside this polygon.
At this time, draw the pupils so that the upper part is slightly covered by the eyelids.
If you just get this structure right, the three-dimensional effect of the eyes will be much more natural.
STEP 2 Light and shade distribution
After expressing the thickness of the eyelids, we move on to the distribution of light and shade.
The important thing is to always draw while being aware that the eyelids overlap the round eyeballs.
The key is to distinguish between the convex shape of the eyeball itself and the shadow of the eyelids that covers it.
If you also remember the structure of the eyebrow bone protruding and adjust the light and shade,
you can create a three-dimensional effect a little more easily.
STEP 3 Eyebrows and Eyelashes
Now let's draw the eyebrows.
The most important thing about eyebrows is direction.
Raise the bangs upwards, and when they reach the middle, draw them as if they were lying down.
Then, as you go towards the ends, if you lay them down again along the curve,
you will complete natural and lively eyebrows.
Here's one more!
Draw the eyebrows short at the front and relatively long at the ends.
Just remembering this point will make your eyebrows look much more realistic.
Next are the eyelashes.
The same goes for eyelashes, ‘flow’ is very important.
Draw them spreading outward from the center of the eye.
Also, if you draw them so that they gradually droop down as they get closer to the bangs, the details will come alive.
STEP 4 Adding 3D
Now let's add some depth with shadow work.
Make sure to clearly draw the shadow created by the upper eyelid over the pupil.
Also, it will look more natural if you express the shadow cast by the eyelashes.
This kind of shadow needs to have clear boundaries so that it doesn't look awkward.
Don't forget the round shadow of the eyeball itself.
If this shadow disappears, it can look flat.
If you express the eyelashes with a slightly gathered feeling toward the end, it will look much more natural.
And I'll try to describe the texture inside the pupil.
Actually, I don't think it's necessary to describe the details inside the pupil when drawing the entire face.
I only express it like this when drawing a close-up of the eyes like this picture,
and usually I just organize the tone simply.
STEP 5 Add details
Now, I'll add more detail to the overall look.
Since fine wrinkles are more prominent around the eyes than pores,
I'll naturally create wrinkles that are created according to the structure of the eyeball and eyebrow bone.
And finally!
Adding a little highlight to your eyelashes or eyebrows
will give your overall density and vitality.
finish!
