How to create your own emotes - process and export
🌸 Introduction 🌸
🎨 Hello hello! In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to create and export your very own emotes! I’ll leave the art magic to you and focus on some super handy tips to keep your workflow meowgically smooth 🐾✨ I hope this helps bring your emote ideas to life — and as always, feel free to ask if you have any questions! 💬💕
🌸 Step 1. Download the two templates 🌸
These two templates are made specifically so you can focus on your art rather than worrying about anything other technical aspect but the drawing itself. The content ID are 2133724 and 2181766 and you’ll find them here:
🌸 Step 2 - Create the files to import the templates 🌸
Now that you have downloaded the files, you’ll have to create two new files:
First file
Create a new file with the following characteristics: 2588x4599 file at 300 dpi.
Second file
Create a new file with the following characteristics: 512x512 file at 150 dpi.
🌸 Step 3. Do the art! 🌸
This is your time to shine! The first file is where you’ll create your art. It has samples of my characters Tofu Inu & Nina Minina you can use as inspiration.
The layers are separated by color and indicate the order I usually work in.
From top to bottom, the layers are:
White: Final highlights
Yellow: Highlights in Glow Dodge
Orange: Shadows in Multiply
Red: Line on a vector layer
Purple: Character color, details on a layer clipped above
Blue: Sketch or eraser
Green: Backgrounds, if you use one
Black: Guides. It's highly recommended that you don't erase them.
After creating your emotes duplicate the folder where they are located.
Then select the new folder and right-click and select “merge/merge selected layers” to make them a single layer.
In that new layer, completely select the emote you want to export. Remember to do this emote by emote. It should look something like this.
🌸 Step 4. Cut & paste 🌸
Copy that selection (cmd+c or ctrl+c) and then in the second template (emotes template 2) paste the layer inside the “Your emotes go here” folder and adjust it to how you want it to look when exported:
You can now export at 100% for 512 px or any other percentage or size you need. Usually 112x112 px, 56x56 px and 28x28 px are the most used.
🌸 Step 5. You're done, congratulations! 🌸
I hope you found this helpful!
