Use the Object List to manage 3D models in a project
You can use the Object list to manage and edit 3D models, as well as their camera angles and lighting.
Access the Object list from the Tool Property palette or the Sub Tool Detail palette to select objects, change their visibility on the canvas, or lock, duplicate and delete objects.
If an object has multiple parts, you can select and toggle each part independently in the list.
The Object List also allows you to organize models in folders and set up hierarchical relationships between objects so that you can edit them on the canvas like a combined object.
The Object list is in the Tool Property and the Sub Tool Detail palettes.
Tool Property palette
Tap the dropdown arrow to the right of the Object List in the Tool Property palette to see the entire list as a popup. In the Tool Property palette, you can use the buttons and icons to edit objects in the list, but you cannot edit the list by dragging the object names, such as to make parent-child relationships.
Sub Tool Detail palette
In the Sub Tool Detail palette, select the Object list category. (Note: Not available in Debut.)
The Object list is larger in this palette than the one in the Tool Property palette, so it’s easier to manage your 3D models here.
For example, you can set up parent-child relationships between models in the Sub Tool Detail palette.
You can also open the Object List from the Object Launcher that appears below a 3D model.
How to use the Object List
Selecting a model to edit
You can change which object is selected by tapping its name in the Object list.
You can also select multiple items by holding the [Ctrl] key.
If a 3D object has multiple parts, you can select each part individually.
Similarly, when 3D models are grouped in a hierarchy, you can use the list to select each child object.
When you select a different object, the object launcher and root manipulator for that object will appear on the canvas so you can move or rotate it.
When dealing with 3D object materials that contain multiple parts or objects that are grouped, selecting the topmost object or folder will allow you to move and rotate all of the grouped parts or 3D models as one.
For more information on manipulating 3D objects, please also refer to the following article.
Note:
In the Object List, you can select the Camera, Ambient light, Directional light 1, and Directional light 2 in addition to 3D models. You can select only one of these items at a time.
For information on the Camera settings, please refer to the following article.
For information on the Ambient light, Directional light 1, and Directional light 2 settings, please refer to the following article.
Show/Hide a 3D model
Tap the eye icon on the left side of the Object list to change the visibility of the 3D model on the canvas.
For 3D object materials that contain multiple parts or grouped objects, you can toggle the visibility of all grouped parts and 3D models by editing the topmost object or folder. You can also set the visibility for each part and 3D model individually.
From Ver. 4.1 and later, you can vertically drag down the eye icons in the list to quickly toggle the visibility of multiple 3D models.
Lock 3D models
You can lock a model or specific parts of a model to avoid accidentally moving it when you have multiple 3D models on the canvas.
Tap the middle column on the Object list to lock an object. When locked, a padlock icon will appear beside the model name. You can still move the camera when a 3D model is locked.
When you lock a 3D object material that contains multiple parts, a parent 3D model, or a group, then you will also not be able to edit parts and 3D models within the locked group.
If you lock a 3D panorama material or the Camera, Ambient light, Directional light 1, or Directional light 2, the settings will be locked, so you cannot change them in the Tool Property or the Sub Tool Detail palettes.
When you lock the Camera, its position will be locked. See the following article for details.
Make an object unselectable
When a 3D model is set to unselectable, you can rotate the camera without selecting a 3D model or parts on the canvas.
You can still edit a 3D model or part by selecting it in the Object List, even if it is set to be unselectable.
Materials listed with “Ver. 2" after the name in the Material palette > 3D > Background are set as unselectable by default. If you want to move the parts, please change it to selectable or select the parts in the Object List.
Editing with the Object List
Duplicate a 3D model
You can duplicate a 3D model by selecting it and tapping Duplicate.
A copy of the 3D model will be added in the same position on the canvas. You can move it with tools such as the root manipulator.
For 3D object materials that include multiple parts, duplicating any part will duplicate the entire material.
If you duplicate a parent model or a grouped model, the entire group will be duplicated.
Delete a 3D model
You can delete a 3D model by selecting it and tapping Delete.
For 3D object materials that include multiple parts, selecting any part will delete the entire material.
If you delete a parent model or a grouped model, the entire group will be deleted.
Open/Close 3D object folders
Use Open All and Close All to open or close all folders for objects with parts and grouped 3D models, such as hierarchical relationships.
Grouping models
You can group 3D models in order to move and edit them like one material. Grouping is available in Ver. 4.1 and later.
To create a group, hold the [Shift] key to select multiple 3D models, then tap Group. A new group (folder) will be created, and the selected 3D models will be stored in that group.
You cannot group 3D panorama materials and 3D background materials, or the Camera, Ambient light, Directional light 1, and Directional light 2.
To edit a group, select it from the Object list.
When you select a group folder, you can move and rotate the grouped 3D models as one. However, you cannot snap to other objects while moving them.
When you select a 3D model within the group, you can edit only the selected 3D model.
To add a 3D model to the group, select and drag it to the group folder until you see a red outline, and then drop it. You can add or create groups within other groups.
To ungroup a model, select it within the group folder and drag it outside of the folder until you see a red outline around Object List, then drop it. Even if you remove all the models from the group, the folder will remain. Please delete it if necessary.
In Debut, you cannot add new 3D models to a group or ungroup them.
Set hierarchical relationships
In addition to grouping models, you can link multiple 3D models in a hierarchical relationship.
For example, you can set up a 3D drawing figure as a parent model and add accessories or items as child objects, allowing you to change the pose while keeping the items attached to the 3D drawing figure.
You can set up a hierarchical relationship by dragging and dropping the child 3D material onto the parent 3D material in the Object list in the Sub Tool Detail palette.
Unlike grouped models, when you move the parent 3D model, the child models will always move accordingly. You cannot move or rotate the parent object independently.
For details on hierarchical relationships and how to use them, please refer to the following article.
