[1] Line art

Now, I will draw the characters based on the background and the rough draft we made in the previous step.

There are two characters on the rough draft, the person flying an aircraft and a dragon.

I will draw them again over the rough draft.

Before I start with the dragon, I will first change its pose.

The characters are still in the initial drawing, so I think it is fine to make some changes.

I compare the dragon with the completed background and change the pose so that it compliments it.

An important point here is that you can change the pose of a main character, but you cannot change its elements. I also need to make sure I include the main theme which is a dragon! If you are required to draw a specific pose for some reason, make sure you draw it.

I draw the aircraft as well.

There is no need to draw the exact same lines as in the rough draft. Consider the location of the cockpit, the engine, the shape of the wings, and other elements and draw them accordingly. It is enough if you make sure the characters are of similar size and flying in the same direction.

This is what I have so far.

It is still a rough line work but since I plan to make changes later and paint over it, there is no need to draw perfectly. Do not add too many details.

[2] Adding Colors and Shadows

I’m almost done with coloring, so I add shadows on the same layer.

I color then add shadows.

At this point, my layer order and types are all mixed up but, I’m not too worried about it.

Just keep adding new layers and draw over them as you proceed.
