7. Painting the Character (3): Armor
Armor
I’ll paint the armor using the same method as the previous parts.
For the gold accents in the “metal” layer, I plan to use an extra step with overlay layers after painting, so for now I’ll just paint the silver parts.
I refine the shape and add more details as I paint.
Above the “armor” layer, I make a new layer called “armor sash” and paint the orange sash. To bring out the texture of the sash, I use the [Pencil] tool > [Colored pencil].
I use the same process for the other parts of the armor and clothing.
● “clothes 2” layer
● “decorations” layer
● “knee socks” layer
● “sword” layer
This is how it looks so far.
Sword
● Swordguard
The swordguard is symmetrical, so I decide on an easier way of drawing it.
1. I create a “swordguard” layer and draw a quarter of the design.
2. I duplicate the layer and flip it vertically.
3. I merge the layers and adjust the middle part so that it matches up.
4. I copy this layer and flip it vertically, then attach it to the top half.
5. With the [Edit] menu > [Transform] > [Free Transform], I match up the design with the angle of the swordguard.
6. To stop it from looking flat, I add another layer for the thickness of the swordguard.
● Blade
I paint the sword, and add a new layer for the swordguard collar.
This is how it looks so far.
