Drawing the main character/subject
Your main character/subject should be in the middle and something you can build on. If you choose a flower or something, you may not easily be able to build on that. It could be helpful to do something you know a lot about.
Line art
My main subject/character will be Medusa from Greek Mythology! If you do not have a character in mind, you can do an object, animal, etc.
Start off drawing the “skeleton.”
Then you can use this reference to make the line art!
I went pretty fast in the drawing process. If you have another way you can do it that way.
If your subject has an eye, you can leave it out of the line art so you can add one in later.
Coloring
For the snakes and the eye I downloaded assets.
I then colored the hair in messily (trust the process).
Tip:
If you use the lasso tool and go around the parts you down’t want there, you can then simply press “delete” and you will have a clean erase!
I then did the same thing with the “in” parts.
And simply, I used the fill tool to fill in her dress.
If you lock the pixels of a layer you can add texture easily.
Then I used a jean texture I downloaded and just scribbled it over the layer.
Then for the skin I used the fill tool again.
then for the skin details (I didn’t to much) I used a coloring brush I downloaded and added it over the skin color.
Then I blended it out.
Background
I used a pop decor background and fixed the layers.
Then for a border/frame, if you go to gradient and get Manga gradient.
You can make your own custom border.
Adding the “stuff"
Please add things that you can link back to this main character/subject.
Pegasus
If you have read mythology you may know why I am adding him.
I uploaded a picture from my web browser with a transparent background.
(It looks better if it has a transparent background.)
Then you can use the airbrush tool to create a haze over the object.
Paper
If you are adding paper try to think about real colors of paper.
(Off-white, purple-ish grey etc.)
I used a paper brush I downloaded.
Border
I used a torn brown paper brush and a town paper edge brush.
I changed around the layers…
We’re about halfway now!
Little “stuffs"
Tape #1
I downloaded a vintage tape image from assets.
Eyes
Since I’m doing this on Medusa I will be adding little eyes everywhere.
You can add little hearts, flowers, stars, etc.
(Sorry for low quality.)
then after you draw one, you can copy-paste it anywhere you want.
Corner objects
I will be putting roses in the lower right corner.
Make sure to choose semi-realistic colors for your items.
(I also drew leaves before the roses.)
Final touches
Noise
Using a noise brush, draw over the full area on a top layer.
Then lower the opacity so that it is barely visible.
Filter
Use the airbrush tool to place your chosen color for the collage over all the other layers.
(I’m going for an antique look, so I will be doing yellow.)
Then add some colors you think fit, to add shadow and “feeling” or “age.”
Change opacity so you can hardly see it…
Banners
I will be using the sheet music brush and green and brown.
Just draw it over corners like string lights, or banners.
Then if you lock the transparent pixels…
You can draw noise over it. I used brown torn paper.
Stars
I simply used the star brush.
Added a border…
Paper texture
I added paper texture with the torn brown paper
Tape
Tape is a really helpful and cool touch.
Using the rectangle tool you make a rectangle, erase the edges to make it look torn, and add a border to make it pop out.
Then put it in places you think need it!
And you’re done!
