■ The Problem of PDF Specification Inconsistency in KDP Paperback Publishing
First, I will name this problem "BigField's 3.2mm Problem".
● Overview of 'Correction Processing' used in BigField-style format conversion
・"BigField's 3.2mm Problem"
When using the PDF interface for KDP paperback creation requests,
if the book's trim size is A5, B5, etc., the "bleed width"
is 3.20mm.
In this case, when "Bleed" is enabled, Clip Studio defines the "bleed width" on all four sides of the trim size: Top, Bottom, Gutter, and Fore-edge.
According to Amazon (Kindle KDP) PDF specifications, the "bleed width" is defined only for the three directions of Top, Bottom, and Fore-edge; the "Gutter" side "bleed
width" is not defined.
Therefore, if you input a PDF assuming the gutter-side "bleed width" exists,
the drawing will be shifted by the "bleed width" amount.
If you do not notice this, you will be busy responding to correction requests from KDP's review department without knowing the cause, even if you receive the following:
Drawing exists in the "bleed width" area.
Drawing exists beyond the "safe zone" area.
・Action as a BigField-style "Correction Process"
Before interfacing with KDP, the user should move the drawing 3.20mm toward the "Gutter direction" in advance.
However, on the interface, the size is over by the amount of the "Gutter" bleed
width, but it seems to be ignored by KDP.
Currently, there is no method in Clip Studio to cut only the gutter-side "bleed width" from the "bleed widths" defined for the four sides (Top, Bottom, Gutter, and Fore-edge) of the trim size.
No external tool has been found that can easily and for free cut only the "bleed
width" on the gutter side either.
