How to write with calligraphic style?

I share my experience in the use of Clip Studio Paint to write letters with calligraphic style similar to those made manually with pens and ink.

I integrate projects that I share digital tools and manuals flowers painted with watercolors, hearts cut out of cardboard and letters made with ink and pencils. I express my "love" for this software and for this community of artists.

Create a main work canvas with the "Illustration" template. I call it illustration 1. I usually use A4 size and 300 dpi, but it will depend on personal preferences.

Select the line tool and make the lines where the letters will be drawn. It is recommended a gray color and a thin thickness, since it will only serve as a guide and then it will be erased.

 

Write!!!

Use pen of calligraphy selecting a color and thickness of brush. A size between 5 and 7 allows a stable stroke adapted to the size of the canvas. Write the preferred word or phrase with naturalness taking the lines drawn as a guide. You can draw printing or cursive letters or combine them. Prioritize a casual layout where it is important to express a message because later the letters can be redefined.

In this instance you can undo part of the text and rewrite it until you feel like we like it as a sketch.

 

Corrections

 If we like the stroke of one or more letters and we want to repeat them in the sentence, I recommend using an auxiliary canvas, I call it illustration 2. Select from illustration1 the preferred letter with polyline selection to follow the contour of it, cut and paste in illustration 2. From here make the necessary corrections, size, color, stroke, orientation. Select, cut and paste in illustration1 the times we think necessary for the phrase. For example: we can use the vocal letters, and paste the same in all the text and leave the consonants with a random path. It is also nice to combine some letters with different types of stroke. Test sub-tools of pens and markers.

Now to create the background!

Once the writing phase is finished, erase the guide lines, add decorative effects of clip studio paint, insert your own or internet images, change background color.

You can add images to the canvas or integrate the text into existing images. I use my own drawings in watercolors. Use the cut and paste tools.

 

Integrate images and keep creating!

Integrate the written text with the inserted images using rubber to erase excesses in edges of the selection, copy colors and use them to paint background or to frame another sentence copied or drawn for example with marker tool. Add text with letters function. Play with the imagination !!!
