How To Create Texture with Hand Drawn Material
Hello in this tutorial I will show how you can make your own texture, anything you want you can draw it and create it. It solves the problem of drawing it every time. first, prepare the canvas as shown below
keep the resolution high and change the basic expression color to grey so you can later change the color of the created texture otherwise, it will only be black.
Creating Wall Texture
create some boxes like this
then fill in the gap and start adding little dots like this
here what it looks like when it is completed. and draw on the whole canvas, don't leave spaces on the end otherwise, it will not be in a continuous stroke if you leave space later you will get separation in the wall texture
now go to edit> register material> image to save image as material
in material property save any name you like and click use for bush tip shape, this is important don't forget to do this. after this save the location of the material as shown below
next copy any brush or pen you want, here I copied the g-pen and then name the material
next select the pen (1) and click on setting (2). sub tool detail will pop up in that click on material as shown below then click that small paper icon
in the above pic, you can see my settings Brush Tip of thickness direction and brush density. keep them like this or play with it to get your desired result
after you click the material icon, search the brush as shown below, and select it
after you select it, the same sub tool detail will come again and the last step is to select the stroke> ribbon as shown below.
And it's done. it's not perfect you have to erase some lines and add some but its better than drawing each and every brick texture in the wall
the brush tip after all the process looks like this
creating stone wall texture
all the process is the same as above to register the material and creating a brush tip shape. create some random shapes like shown to look like stone
and remember to draw till the end and not in the middle. for a small shape like this use selection tool and draw in rectangular selection. these are wall texture so there shouldn't be empty space. if you leave space the brush will create rectangular boxes that are not connected and you will not get the flowing in a straight line and it will look like separate blocks of stone.
next fill in the empty spaces as shown below
add little dots and lines in some of the stones
after it is done. the same process follows. go to edit>register material>image
refer to the above steps, the steps are all same name the material and save it. create the copy of any pen and rename it. in subtool settings >brush tip > material> select material and in stroke select ribbon.
creating crack texture
draw some broken lines like this, if you want flowing crack lines then draw till both the end of the canvas like I did.
next darken the lines. its simple crack so you can make any distorted lines. and after darkening the line start adding more small cracks like shown below
here is the image with all the details
in this also all the steps are the same as shown in example 1 create the copy of any pen and rename it. in subtool settings >brush tip > material> select material and in stroke select ribbon.
your brush is created.
big crack
for big crack, make some lines like this that are all directed to one main point. like shown
add the main point of the crack
this is just rough guidelines as to where cracks will be. then I start erasing lines one by one add more detailed cracks as shown below
after adding all the cracks it looks like this
now fill in some cracks with black like this and its complete. note that I left some space on the top and bottom of the canvas because I wanted to create single big crack. if you want continuous then draw till both the ends
saving and creating the brush is same as the above example I have shown
here is the final result
Wood texture
texture for a wooden plank
this step is a little different than the rest. use symmetry ruler to divide the canvas in half and create a rectangular selection tool in the middle as shown below
use of symmetry tool is that you draw on the one-half side and same is replicated on the other half size. this will help to keep the both ends matched and is important for continuous flow.
you can see in the blue circles my symmetry line is not straight so thats why both the side of the end is not properly matched. keep the symmetry line straight when you draw it.
in this case lines will be little bit offset
draw the rest of the lines. I flipped it vertically so I can get a straight vertical stroke of this texture ( it was easier to draw this horizontally). if you don't flip it then you will get horizontal 2-3 piles of this texture in one stroke and you don't want that. so flip it
delete the ruler layer from the layer before registering this material. without deleting the image will not register so it's important to delete it. you can leave selection but deleting ruler is important
save the material and use it for the brush tip all the process is the same as above examples
Tree Trunk
for creating the texture of tree trunk use symmetry ruler to divide the canvas into 2 and use a rectangular selection tool inside which you will draw. draw on the one-half side and it will be created in the other half too. as shown below
here are the completed lines. you can search for references for more detailed drawing
delete the ruler and register the material. use all the steps shown in example 1 to use this texture as brush tip
here is a rough example as to how you can use it to draw
Texture of basket
for a basket texture, we will use this drawing
next, make grids on the canvas to make equal boxes. for grid use cntrl+R
make the grid as shown below
make the full grid and draw the boxes in it
after that delete the grid in the same way as I showed to delete ruler. and draw the texture as I did in the middle. make lines in the same way.
here is the final drawing, the use of the grid is to make boxes not big or small but the same size as one end has to fit the other end then only after making brush it will give the continuous stroke.
after the drawing is complete do all the steps in example 1 to make this brush tip
and here is final result
different basket texture
here is an example of how you can draw a different texture
this just a rough drawing, use the grid to make it in same size
these are just some examples as to how you can create your own texture. the process is the same in making any texture. go ahead and make your own texture, don't wait for someone to upload it so that you can use it.
the texture is not totally perfect it requires to edit a little bit but it's much better than drawing every detail every single time.
