Monochrome Illustration Video Time-lapse

Hi Guys!

In this tutorial I'll show you how to create monochrome illustrations using all tools provided in clip studio paint!

You're welcome to check out the video and read the tips in the description, whichever you find easier to understand!

Start With A Sketch

First things first!

We should start any illustration with a sketch. I already made my sketch beforehand. I simply used pen tool to sketch it out, but you can even make a sketch with pen and paper and upload the image in clip studio.

Outlining The Sketch

Next step we take is outlining the sketch and finalising it to make it neater.

For this step we go to Subtool[Pen] and use 'For effect line' in Pen subtotal.

The reason why I prefer to use this tool is because it gives the effect of pen pressure automatically without having to apply the pressure yourself.

This comes in handy by saving time and getting much precise lines than you would get by doing it yourself.

Once we are done with neatly lining the sketch we can move on to the next step.

Colouring In The Line Art

Once we are done with giving our sketch a basic line art we can start in by colouring it.

The first thing I do is giving the line art a base colour using fill tool.

I decided to give it a grey base colour so I could go darker and lighter accordingly.

Keeping the base grey, I cleaned out the parts I wanted completely white for now like the skin colour.

Then I used a verity of different brushes from Subtool[brush] Watercolour brush to fill out the Illustration

I went back and forth with brushes and tones of grey to give the effect of shading, lights and darks.

I also filled out her shirt and skin and gave some highlights to the water to give the whole illustration more depth.

This particular step is for the artist to decide on how he/she thinks their Illustration will look the best.

Adding Extra Decorations

This step is completely up to you.

But personally find this the most easiest and interesting to look at.

I am absolutely in love with clip studio paints Decoration tools that provide the artist with many interesting simple and easy illustrations to use from. And I will be using some in my illustration!

For this step you go to Subtool[Decoration] and to the Flower decoration.

Over here you have a verity of different flowers to choose from.

I used a verity of different flowers for filling out the sides and adding some inside the water.

This tool is truly amazing for concept art or regular illustrations where you're trying to give an idea of something without really emphasising much on it.

It cut your work in half and gives to a verity of options where you can choose from different flowers to sizes to position using Tool Property of the brush you've chosen.

Thank You!

If you got here that means you read the tutorial, I hope it helped you guys out!

If you have any questions please feel free to leave it down in the comments!

Until next time!
