Hello, my name is Lost, I'm Belgian. My CSP is in French, if you cannot find the corresponding tools, do not hesitate to use a translator. I did a video tutorial and a photo tutorial.

Today we are going to create brushes using traditional tools (watercolor, colored pencils, coffee) as well as the pre-existing tools in Clip Studio Paint.

You can use all kinds of tools and even raw textures (bark, textiles, papers etc ...) There are no limits and the results can be surprising.

Create textures with traditional tools

For this tutorial, I used several tools.

Coffee, watercolor, colored pencils, markers on different papers to have different paper grains and textures.

I used watercolor paper.

Kraft paper

Papyrus paper

For the technique, I spread the materials with my fingers, with brushes, a toothbrush and handkerchiefs.

Tips: Don't throw away your worn markers, they make great textures.

Scan your results.

When you have beautiful textures, scan or take photos of your textures. We will need it on CSP.

Keep a good resolution (300dpi minimum). You can put your image in shades of gray, if you do not do it with the scanner, it does not matter, we can do it later in the software.

Here is the result of my experiments.

Create the brush with the traditional texture

We will copy paste the interesting parts in a file and then copy and paste each texture individually in a gray expression color file.

1- use the ellipse selection area to select each texture individually

2- copy-paste the selection in the new file

3- check that the layer is in gray expression color (this information is above the layers).

It is important that the layer is gray, if you color it later, you will not be able to use the brush with colors.

Tip: you can play with the opacities, erase certain parts or add more textures.

"edit", check "convert luminance to opacity".

This option allows you to remove the whites and keep only the shades of gray, which will allow you to use only the main color of the brush.

Tip: by not checking this box, the whites will take the secondary color of the palette.

Now let's create the material.

1- go to "editions", "save material", "image"

2- give a name to your material, it will be easier to find it later.

3- Select "use the shape for brush tip"

4- Save your material in a folder, I advise you to create it, it will be easier later to find your creations.

1- go to the pencil / pen / pastel or other tools

2- select your tool

3- duplicate it, give it the name of your new brush.

4- under the properties of the tool, click on the wrench

5- a new page will open, click on "tip of the brush"

6- click on the sheet with a plus on the bottom

1- in the search bar, note the name you gave to your new brush, it should appear on the right, click on ok

2- Click on the previous brush

3- delete it and you can save your new settings at the bottom of this window.

tip: You don't have to delete the first brush (es). it will give a mixture of the brushes present.

Brush with CSP tools

  • The creation process is the same as before, but here you can use studio paint clip tools. Brushes, watercolors, pencils, pastel, material image, monochromatic pattern.

-You can use multiple tools at the same time.

Erase certain parts, make braces, etc ...

Have fun.
