Scrollin' Scrollin' Scrollin'

After adding so many layers, you've gone nuts with all those layer modes and you get lost in your own mess. The scrolling is endless. Folders can help organize your content as well as minimize and expand when needed. This is especially useful for Animation tools, not only to reduce the amount of scrolling to access the layer you wish to work with, but Folders provide an additional asset you can animate, be it for masking multiple layers animated within, or even creating follow through animation such as wrist to elbow to shoulder joints.

Organize aspects of your image that can be bundled and bound together, like elements that make a single part like a flower, making it easier to move that bundle around, copy it, mask it. There is so much potential you can branch with.

But The Layers Don't Work How I Want Them To Anymore

Folders/Groups also have their own layer mode function. Additionally they have their own special function called "Through". In Normal mode, the behavior of layers within the Folder are restricted to the bounds of that group. If you have the bottom layer in a group set to multiply, the group will dismiss the mode, making the bottom layer as the canvas layer for the whole group. Setting the Folder's mode to "Through" will enable all the layers to affect the rest of the image as though they weren't in a group at all.

If a Clipping layer is set at the bottom of a folder, it has nothing to clip to and will not acknowledge as the layer beneath outside its designed folder as its master. This layer will then default into "Normal" mode, regardless of the mode the Folder is in.

Mode to Folders

Just like each layer, each folder can also have their choice of mode. As mentioned just previously, setting the group to "Through" mode will make the layers within behave as if they were not in that Folder. The behavior of Modes in Folders will depend on the appearance of the Folder in Normal mode.
