INTRO TO [ROUND 1] What are Fabric

Hello guys, ones again welcome,I am Daniel and I will be taking you on today illustration title learn ten ways to texture and design fabrics.

I will be showing you how I texture and design the different variety of clothes out there,

So let's get our game face on and let's get started.

•Fabric :

Fabric a material constructed/ fabricated to some new

Like clothes, shoes and so much more...

•Nature of Clothes

[ROUND 2] Drawing techniques: How to draw in [FOLD] on a fabric

When drawing clothes you should bear in mind that clothes takes forms of various shape that are known as [FOLD].

And they are some know shape which clothes fold which are

1) pipe fold

When a fabric is place on one point, it takes on a pipe shape like a cone

Front

When I draw this type of fold,I draw in some cone shape to art as my guide to help me draw in pipe lines

for the Back,I also draw in some cone by visualizing how I want my clothes fold like

2) zig-zag fold

When a fabric is a bit compressed, it's take on a Ziggy expression

Front

When I draw in the zigzag fold,I bear in mind that when I draw the fold one leading to another but not allowing the two edge to touch each other

For the Back,I draw the fold also one leading to another and following the body gestures

3) flying fold

When a fabric is in any form of motion/movement,it take on some form of s shape

4) diaper fold

When a fabric is hang in two points,it takes on some u shape

Front

I draw the type of fold,I draw a curved line from left down and also from right downward to show the gravitational pull of the fabric

For the hip outward is [indentions] and for the part of the fabric curved inward is the [protrusion].

The hip and curved point are mark [X]

For Back,Also I did the same thing and taking notice of the body gestures

5) spiral fold

When a fabric is wrap around a cylindrical shape,it take on a spring-like shape either on one side or two

6) half-lock fold

When a cylindrical shape object wrap with a fabric is bent,it give this shape

When I draw this at bending of hands/legs where the joint a bend also the fabric will also display a fold know as half-lock.

7) rest/inert fold

When a fabric is lying on the floor, it not all the fabric part touch the ground some part are hips up and down curves

8) pinch fold:

This type of fold is form when a hand is pinch the fabric or when a fabric is place on an object with a sharp round top,it takes the shape of that object

When I draw this type of fold for the nipples/hand pinching and object,I use the the pinching fold

Drawing the fabric shape base on how the object shape,if round and having a pointed curve edge, I draw the fabric with two curve lines and curve stroke at each side

[ROUND 3]: Fabric density abilities affect the folding abilities

As we all know some fabric are thin and thick

And when you draw fold for clothes that are

[Thin]

draw with more wavy of fold on the fabric

[Note that Because the fabric texture is thin and hard the fabric fold more and have a angle edge have a edges]

While [Thick,soft material]

draw with less wavy fold on the fabric

[Note that Because the fabric texture is thick and soft the fabric fold less and have a round edges ]

•Thin vs thick

And Also some fabric have soft and hard surface

For [Soft] fabrics

Drawing the fold of such fabric to have a round shape

[Because fabrics is seamless which means that they have smooth and soft fabric and that make it easy to bend]

While [Hard] fabrics

Drawing the fold of such fabric to have a angle edge shape

[Because fabric is seam which means that they have hard surface and that make it uneasy to bend ]

•Soft vs hard

[ROUND 4] Texture: the different ways to texture fabric of clothes.

Clothes are raw, natural materials are spun into threads and yarns that are then woven or knit into natural fabrics to cover something and beautify it.and as we all know that different fabric are made in various ways like

woven,

Knit,

& knot

Clothes are made from three fibre types – synthetic fibres, reconstituted cellulose fibres and natural fibres – and those fibre are blended together to give something like tanned leather, silk, satin, transparent leather, dennem (jeans),net, wool and shimmering fabric

i) cotton

I created a new layer named

•layer 1

[Note: You can name your background layer or what ever you like but I will be use "layer 1 to infinite" for the illustration for better understanding]

use bucket tool to fill it with background color

•layer 2

I create a round sphere ball

•layer 3

[Set to normal] I paint in the basecolor on top of the sphere ball and the wall of the basecolor I use the painting brush to add some fur to the wall to make it look rough.

•layer 4

[Set to multiply] I add some dark shadows

•layer 5

[Set to normal ] I add some highlights

•layer 6

[Set to subtract]

[yes "subtract"some of you may ask subtract why not multiply, it's because at this point I want to wawoo my painting and subtract do just that,I love doing this in most of my art pieces if you have been following me you will notice me using variety of odd setting like difference, subtract, exclusion and more]

after setting to subtract,I use a blue color to shade into to the shadow to give off a light penetration look.

•layer 7

[Set to brightness] I add another aspect of fur into the fabric

ii)tanned leather

I create a new layer named

•layer 1

•layer 4

[Set to normal] I add some light blue color to the fabric and I use the blend tool to blend it

•layer 5

[Set to overlay] I add a dark blue gradient using the gradient tool on to the fabric while clipping it

•layer 6

[Set to normal] I paint some light blue color and white color fur at the bottom

•layer 7

[Set to lighten] I paint some reflection of blue and pink light from right and left side of the fabric and floor

•layer 8

[Set to multiply] I paint some shadow to the fur

iv) silk

I create a new layer named

•layer 1

use bucket tool to fill it with background color

•layer 2

I create a round sphere ball

•layer 3

[Set to normal] I paint in the basecolor on top of the sphere ball with a navy blue color in shape of the fabric while clip to down layer

•layer 4

[Set to normal] I paint a light blue color onto the fabric

•layer 4

[Set to multiply] I shade in a dark blue color to the fabric

•layer 5

[Set to normal] I paint in some hard white color into the fabric as the highlight

v) satin

I create a new layer named

•layer 1

use bucket tool to fill it with background color

•layer 2

I create a round sphere ball

•layer 3

[Set to normal] I paint in the basecolor on top of the sphere ball with a green color in shape of the fabric while clip to down layer

•layer 4

[Set to normal] I paint in the basecolor on top of the sphere ball with a light green color in shape of the fabric also clipping it

•layer 5

[Set to screen] I paint a bright green color as the highlight as satin material often reflect harsh light light penetration [warm color]

•layer 6

[Set to multiply] I shade in some dark green color into the shadow of the fabric

•layer 7

[Set to hue] I paint in a blue color to add some ambient light to the fabric

vi) transparent organza

I create a new layer named

•layer 1

use bucket tool to fill it with background color

[Set to darken] I paint in pink color into the steel as an ambient light

[Round 5] Design: holographic

Holographic is a special kind of sparkly or flashy fabric with printed images or patterns that seem to “jump at you” like 3D images/shapes. Technically, this is a type of spandex fabric that's overlaid with holographic effects with flamboyantly amazing reflections and visuals.

Down below are variety of designing image and shape which are in your the decorations brush tools and online in the assets site

the clip studio logo and decorations brush below

When I am to design male character clothes,Here is the process do use

•FOR MALE

For the Back

Finish work

Also here are two different kinds of editing the logo and shape design

•Image

I use the same process of adding the shape but instead of shape I add image to get what is below

[I made use of some of my former portraits and you can use any images of yours to do same]

•FOR THE FEMALE

I do the paint of the cloth separately.

for the TOP, I paint it and made use of the decoration brush while clipping the layers I then paint in straight stroke to show that the character cloth is made of knitted wool

And for the SKIRT I just painted in shape using my decoration brush

I also use the same process for the Back

Finish work

[Round 6] Application: appling what is learnt into painting of clothes for character

I will be using the method I illustrated above to texture and design this clothes

Shimmering fabric

Transparent Organza

Jeans [denem]

Chiffon

Variety of tanned Leather

Cotton

Here is a female warrior wear a steel armor

BONUS ROUND: wet fabric

I create a new layer named

•layer 1

use bucket tool to fill it with background color

•layer 2

I create a round sphere ball

•layer 3

[Set to normal] I paint in the basecolor on top of the sphere ball with a dark red color with some light red edges in shape of the fabric while clip to down layer

•layer 4

[Set to normal] I paint in a pink color on top of the fabric

•layer 5

[Set to normal] I paint in some soft white color into the fabric as the highlight
