Introduction

The drawing of a surreal landscape should be an idea of metaphysical projection that is built from the imagination on a non-human, non-cultural manifestation where you can discover a parallel universe with objects of different scales, micro and macro that are projected on the same reality. .

In a few words, a landscape that is projected from your imagination!

Let's do it

The first thing we must do is set the resolution that our image will have, in my case I use 1920x1080 with 300 dpi (Full HD) being an approximate amount of 2 million pixels, which would lead to good sharpness on a 32-inch screen. size.

Configuration of your work area

The next step is the configuration of your work area, starting with your physical area such as your desk, table, tablet, keyboard, mouse in such a way that it is easy and comfortable for you to work, then comes the configuration of your digital area where you go to choose your color palette that you are going to use, the types of defined or personalized brushes so that it is easy to locate and not waste time looking for each tool, all this information can be written down in a notebook for quick reference.

workflow

The process that I use to make a surreal landscape image is to generate layers starting from the bottom of our image, which is practically the depth of what our eyes would see.

Each layer will be grouped into folders that refer to what is inside them.

Let us begin!

1. The first thing we will do is put the background in a gradient color.

2. The circle of the small moon and the big moon will be made

3. With a gouache watercolor we will give it the texture

4. With a dry watercolor we will make the craters of the moon

5. With a blur we will apply on the edges of the craters so that it blends with the texture of the moon.

6. The process of points 3, 4 and 5 is repeated to create the large moon.

7. The clouds are generated with the fine brush giving small circles of light gray color, then small circles of darker gray color to generate the shadow and small circles of white gray, after applying Paint Blend and finally Texture Blend .

8. The background mountains are generated with gradient color to give a foggy effect

9. To generate the reflection of the moon in the water, it is necessary to generate a white circle and then give it an opacity of 50, then with the Color Mix tool and the Fingertip sub tool we pass it over the white circle.

10. The island is created with the ruins and then with a custom lace it is given the texture

11. The rocks of a small island are generated using the same method of point 10 but with another nail.

12. To generate the fog, the white Sprite is used and it is spread over the area where we want the fog to be displayed.

13. We draw a border with our brush that is where we want to apply the paint and texture in one layer.

14. And we apply the colors and texture that we want.

15. We generate a new brush for the bushes and herbs.

16. Then we put the trees and the reflection using the same technique that was used to generate the reflection of the moon.

17. We draw a rock as part of an arch so that it gives the effect of an entrance and we apply it creating a new brush for the hydra.

18. Then it is painted using the technique to give texture to the rock.

19. Finally, we generate a small log with some foliage at the other end and some small birds in the distance.

20. As a final result we have the following.

Gratitude

I hope you have enjoyed this technique and can use it by experimenting with new colors and textures. Take advantage of it in your new projects to generate your surreal worlds.
