Transparent Art: How to draw water, crytals and clear thing.

Do you guys ever have a problem to draw water or crystal or something that looks glassy?
You know it makes your work get more eye caught status. And Of course! I will teach you some tips that can use for real.

* I already concluded the content; it won't take time too long.
** If you understand the tutorial, this skill can be used in any software.

Form & Surface

Studying the shape of your object is very important. Because it will make your art have more realistic, It also helps to show how much you pay attention to your works.

From the picture, you can know by common sense that the left one is weird; the right one looking normal. Look around your house and find something that has an interest form and texture (also your face is a great example! and faster than anything else. Go to the mirror right now!). Take it to the bright place and dark place, write something on it and look from the different views, this will make you understand 3D things better.

Reflection light & Shadow

Reflection is SUPER hard for someone and SUPER easy for some people too. That means it's can learn by sense but for who that not get in this one I'll explain it for you.
Our eyes use light to see, So when the light met with the object that has a special surface or trasperent; We'll see the object different from before.
For example: if you look at the sea the ground is more shallow than realistic, if you look through your wine glass everything will be curved.

Blending mode

Mr.hedgehog is our actor today! All of the effects are unique by themselves. If you have time, it's better to try all but for me, I already have my favorite blending mode!

- sceen
- hard light
- overlay
- glow dodge
- add (glow)
- liner light
- multiply
- color burn
- overlay
- difference

If you working in the group there will be another one blending mode was adding.
"Through" is the mode that makes your effect layers in the group can pass through the outside layers. Try it yourself you can't understand this mode by only reading.

Water & Drop

1) Sketch water shape. (Use white or light color to draw.)
2) Fill the blanks with a quite dark color.
3) [Overlay] the line layer, markdown with the base color.
4) Use [Airbrush] to make a shadow.
5) Select lighter and dazzling colors to paint over the light area by using [Opaque watercolor].
6) Add highlight at the edge.
7) Sparkle, glow blending mode use it to decorate your water till you are complacent.

1) Sketch water shape. (Use white or black color up to your BG.)
2) Add the colorful color at the edge.
3) Blur the edge and draw highlight (Light color only).
4) Maybe you can erase some spots that too dense. Always remember the water is clear.

If you prefer the realistic water style just do the same but change the colors and decrease the detail. The color needs to be a bit green or gray and highlight is no need for dazzling colors.

1) Sketch the total shape.
2) Draw more detail and fill the base color (Colorful color).
3) Use the darker colors for shading with [Airbrush].
4) Use Eraser [Soft] to erase the area that needs to.
5) Add highlight and reflection light! Done!

Other clear texture

For the other clear texture, most are using more than 2 layers to create and consist of a dark layer, light layer.

I recommend the gradient to change the color of your object (Check the value in grayscale first.) And that gradient needs to be smooth if not you might get weird shading but sometimes it looks good so it's okay to try different gradient styles.

Tips! & Thank you!

- Use the reference!
- The glitch effect looks really good when it with water!
- If you are a mouse user; turn down the brush density of [Soft eraser] and go for it.
- Transparent art looks good in the dark background, so I highly recommend you to practice in the black paper
- An easy way to make glow is to copy your object layer, past it and use the fliter>blur>gaussian blur; change blending mode.
