If You have other ideas ooor suggestions, share it and show up this article for the others
1º : Its NEVER being PERFECT!
I has waited 9 years to make my first comic, just because my INSECURITY and PERFECTIONISM.
In Brazil, We don't have big and famous SCHOOLS ARTS, and my city is very little, so I dont meet people that Its worked with art.
When I decided make the comic book, and after reading The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin, just said to myselft: Its the better that I can make NOW.
I kick off my other thoughts and pessimisms and started make
2º THINK about the STORY, after, THE CHARACTERS.
I don’t know How to the other person around the world make and planned their stories, BUT, here in Brazil, I see the MAJORITY beginners, thinking FIRST about the CHARACTERS and after on the STORY.
That worked on when You wanted make commissions or drawing something without purpose.
BUT, for make a story, You NEED think and plan the STORY before and after planned the CHARACTERS.
3º REPLY this questions: WHERE, WHEN, WHO and WHY
When I have 10 years old, my Aunt gived to my Uncle (he is a writer too) a book about to How to make stories, and I never forget that part:
"When You are make an story, You need it respond this questions: When, Where, Who and Why"
When: It’s about the timespace of your story;
Where: It’s about the phisics space or local of your story;
Who: It’s about the characters of your story;
Why: It’s about the reason of your story happen.
Answer this questions, and Here We go!
4º Make the SCRIPT and/or STORYBOARD
When I has said SCRIPT, Its can be applied to those who write and draw or only write
My first chapter I writed the script, with number of frames, description of scenarios, camera angles, speech bubbles, who would be speaking and how they would be speaking.
But, I spend a lot time make this, then, on the second chapter I write a resume and draw the storyboard.
If You are a writer and have a parther, You need to describe the scenes, lines and scenarios well in a way that anyone can understand, thus avoiding mistakes and rework. Its almost like art direction.
5º Define a DEADLINE and How many pages You needed it
If You dont have a DEADLINE, your Work never been finished.
I tried and failed! Now, when Clients doesnt define a DEADLINE, I define one!
Defined deadline, now, How much pages You can draw within fhe deadline?
20, 10, 5?
If your Client define How many page You needed make, calculate how many pages you can do per day to complete.
And DON’T PROCRASTINE!
I procrastinated so much that I almost didn't deliver on time.
Delays? Notify the client, parthers or followers
