How to I make my comic pages?
This article it’s an updated version of my first tip, “ How to make a page faster”.
For novices, creating comic or webtoon pages can be challenging. As a Brazilian artist, I began creating my own comics in 2024. Since there aren't many books or tutorials on visual storytelling in Portuguese, we had to translate what we could find.
I wrote a piece about tips for novice comic book artists. Click this link to view it:

1ºst step: Make the STORYBOARD or NAME
I gained a lot of knowledge about creation, character lore, career planning, and the workings of the industry when Bakuman was introduced in Brazil. It makes sense that things function very differently in Brazil.
An important term that I learned is NAME or STORYBOARD.
Storyboard for the creation of comic books: it's the phase of pre-production, planning. You make all pages on paper or in a notebook, tablet, etc. The visual storytelling takes effort.
You need to know where the balloons, actions, characters, background, and sound effects were on the page.
But, you don’t need to make so many details, you can use a stick man. The storyboard talks about reading fluency, organization, composition, not about beauty.
[Observation] This image contains the pages from Chapter One of my original comics, Haruka, only available in Portuguese.
2ºnd step: Create the archives
Before I do the script, I decide how many pages the chapters will have, for example:
1º The first chapter has 25pages.
2º The second chapter has 20 pages.
3º The third chapter has 30 pages.
4º The fourth chapter will have 30pages.
After that, I write the script, review it just once, and start creating all the archives of the pages
I have to make this because I usually take a long time to make one at a time.
3ºrd step: Make the a unique frame
You have read correctly! After opening the archive, I began creating a unique frame. But why?
So, during my drawing page process, I noticed that I take a very long time to create frame by frame, and when I accidentally forget a frame, I turned around and see the TOOL BORDERLINES.
4ºth step: Add borderlines
Now, start added the bordeerlines, one by one, depending on the page you are creating
The quantify, distance, edge thickness, depend on what you decide during the Storyboard process
[ATENTION]: If you are a comic artist who makes frames “out of the box” or veeeeery different from each other, I recommend that you don’t use my method, because you will feel frustrated or trapped.
5ºth step: Reoganize the layers
[ATTENTION] Remember to name the layers. Otherwise, you will get lost and draw in the wrong layer!
If you create the frames out of order, you need to reorganize the layers with the frame and rename them.
Aaaaand its done!
You can to add the ballons, characters, background, sound effects and whatever what you want.
See ya!
