My Traditional Dish

So I am from Pakistan. And (to sacrifice my own life) I'm not really a big fan of sweet stuff. But if I had to pick a favourite, this would be it. It's called 'Shahi Tukray' which is basically a type of bread pudding.

It's made by deep frying bread and making the syrup out of condensed milk.

So now I am gonna go through step by step on how to convert this into anime style food.

Turning It Into An Illustration

I started off by creating a simple rough line art using G-Pen>Pen>SubtoolOne I was happy with the placement of my objects in the rough sketch.

I also created a colour swatch using the reference image.

I created the colour swatch noting down the dominant colours that were present in the image.

This helped me get a basic understanding of the colour scheme.

After that I filled in the basic colours of the objects.

I placed them in separate layers in separate folders to shade and highlight them separately.

I used the selection tool in AutoSelect>Subtool

To select the bottom syrup layer I wanted to shade without colouring in the other objects.

I used two to tree shades of browns darker then the base colour to add shadows of the top objects.

I used Tapered Pen>Pen>Subtool to put the colours down and Wet Bleed Blender>Watercolour>Brush>Subtool to blend it out.

I used the same techniques for the other layers with the same selection tool and brushes.

However, Because I wanted more texture in the bread slices, I lowered the brush density of the Wet Bleed Brush in Tool Property.

Since the Syrup on top was glossy and had a light hint of shadow, I used a colour slightly darker then it's base colour and blended it in using Soothing Watercolour>Brush>Subtool.

This brush helped me blend the colour in much smoother without any texture.

Once I was done with shading it all the other objects, it was time to colour in the topping!

In the original picture, the topping was made with a cluster of almonds and pistachio.

Which meant a lot of green and brown colours.

So rather than colouring in all objects individually, I have everyone a rough shade of greens and browns.

And added details in only some go the pieces.

This helped me get the basic idea of almonds without going into much detail.

For the last detail, I used tapered pen and white colour to add some highlights into some parts of the syrup to give it that fresh effect that makes food look more appetising.

Final Look

And that is the final look of the whole illustration.
