VIDEO TUTORIAL

Hello everyone! This is how I draw seamless pattern using Clip Studio Paint - well, exactly as the title says...

This is my first time doing a video tutorial so please forgive me if I did any mistake!

This tutorial was done on iPad version of Clip Studio Paint (with my custom workspace so it may differ from yours). The desktop version should be the same; I noted the keyboard shorcuts for use with Clip Studio Paint on desktop.

CRASH COURSE - IMAGE TUTORIAL

If you're impatient or if your internet is unstable and you can't see the video well, here's a crash course with image from the video!

These are important functions that I used in my tutorials, and my workspace order on my iPad.

Drag two rulers to the middle of your drawing (Ctrl + R to show the rulers if they are hidden).

Show the grids, set them to 1x1 pixel.

Use the marquee selection and the guides, divide your drawing into 4 parts...

... and move each part to its opposite corner (eg. lower right to top left), make it pixel-perfect accuracy by using the 1x1 grid and the zoom function.

Now you can draw other element of the pattern. I draw them on new layers to be safe. Make sure to not touch the borders of your drawing. You can even add a colored background (just make sure it's a flat color so your pattern can be seamless; if it's not a flat color, repeat the above steps to make it seamless).

Open Material property: Edit > Register Material > Image...

Name your pattern (called Material here), tick the Scale up/down and Tiling checkboxes and select a Location to save material. Click OK and it's done. You can play around with the drop-down lists to the right of the checkboxes, the result will be shown on Material image.

Your material will appear in the Material panel, under your saved location. Drag-and-drop it onto the canvas or to the Layer panel to use.

Attach a Layer mask to the pattern layer to hide/reveal the part you want (make a selection > Layer > Layer Mask > Mask Outside Selection) or clip the pattern layer to a colored part (Layer panel > Clip to Layer Below).

Ctrl + T to resize, Ctrl + Shift + T to transform the pattern. If you want to use Mesh transformation (Edit > Transform > Mesh Transformation...), you have to rasterize the pattern layer first (right-click the layer > Rasterize).

That's how I draw seamless patterns. See the video for a more detailed instruction!
