Undercut Hair
Hello there and welcome,
At the end of this tutorial you will understand characteristics of hair and how to draw undercuts.
It will be separated in two sections, the understanding of hair basics and various ways of how to create some undercut hairstyles.
Hair Basics
Let start by looking at the characteristics of the hair. This will help you to understand how hair works. As you progress through this tutorial you will be able to see how the hair behaves in some undercut hairstyles.
One of the basics is that hair covers most of the skull.
An easy way to understand hair, is dividing it into sections or blocks. Easy shapes. Then we can design the hairstyle.
Also, hair when it grow, is a little separated from the skull, it doesn't stick to it. It has volume, don't forget that.
The hair follows the cranial shape. It doesn't matter how the hair grows, its length, type of hair, if it is in motion or any force that affects it.
You can tie the hair, tight or looser, but it will always follow the shape of the head.
The hair doesn't just fall to the ground like a curtain. Think about it as a water form. Once it touch the surface, it will expand, twist or bulk up.
Undercut
The undercut styles I usually draw.
Simple pattern line: Using the ggpen, draw a pattern of three or four lines following the skull structure.
Gradient line: Using only the G-Pen, which the pression of your strokes, draw thin lines that follow the skull structer. Then a zigzag line, from down to up, that becomes thicker while aproaching the hair. To finish, blend the lines with a smooth watercolour brush.
Gradient hair style: Start with a cross-hatching x4 pattern. Using the same pattern in without opassity mode we delete parts of the pattern. With the G-Pen we draw little hairs, as they come closer to the neck, we reduce its thickness and amount. For the gradient, use the soft eraser.
The final result.
Some hatch brushes, which will make the process of drawing undercuts easier.
