1. Optimal setting for your tablet

Introducing how to set up an environment where you can draw anywhere, and how to draw innovatively using mobile devices.

  • We will conduct a tutorial with Galaxy Tab S7+

1. First, let's look at the initial setting of the tablet version. (I will explain it on a right-handed basis)

The initial setting looks like this.

By default, all pop-up menus are closed to free up space on the canvas to draw on.

Hold the pen in your right hand and operate the touch panel with your finger on the left.

They are arranged so that you can set tools and menus.

2. Restoring the settings used in the PC version to the tablet.

Brushes, shortcuts, workspaces, etc. set on the PC can be used on the tablet, so you can work in the familiar environment on the tablet.

How to use:

First, you need to backup the settings you are using on your PC to the cloud server.

I will proceed while logged in to Clip Studio.

Tap the cloud icon to enter the cloud menu.

The third button,

Click "Run backup of application settings right now" to start the backup.

When the backup is complete, let's load the settings from the tablet.

As with PC, after entering the cloud menu while logged in,

Click the second "Restore application settings" button.

Then, the list of settings that I have backed up appears.

Click the restore button in the corresponding list to proceed.

3. Recommend workspace layout for mobile devices

As with the PC version, you can move the menu by dragging and dropping it to the desired location.

Use layers, palettes, and more to suit your needs!

※For reference, if you want to change the layout like the PC version, you can set it like this.

Select Preferences→ Interface and uncheck the check box in Layout

Finally, I will introduce the workspace I use.

I am using the PC version layout by arranging a few pop-ups for mobile use.

First of all, the most noticeable thing is that it has a color palette that is not visible in the default tablet layout. When colors look intuitive, color selection feels easier, right? Of course, because it takes up a lot of screen, I am actively using the hidden function. When you are done selecting the color, hide it and take it out again to use. Even if you do this, the canvas that you can draw will be wider. Unlike computers where the space is wider on a large monitor, if you work with all windows open in a limited space, you tend to close unwanted things when you are not using them.

The second thing I care about the most is the brush size popup! I think that adjusting the size of the brush is the most difficult part in common for those who have moved to the LCD tablet while using the fan tablet, but it was very stressful for me to adjust the size every time. In particular, I used the keyboard to adjust the size of the brush rather than the usual jog ring, so adjusting the brush size was almost hell in an environment where I couldn't assign a shortcut or hotkey.

However, if you set the brush popup like this, you can quickly and easily adjust the brush size with a simple touch. Of course, it has been placed so that you can easily switch tools through a tool selection pop-up next to it.

** How to apply the downloaded workspace to the tablet

First, just open the default ClipStudio window with no canvas open.

Click the Material tab to open the downloaded material list.

Drag and drop to the workspace as it is to apply.

1.2 Other tips to set up!

1. (●'◡'●) How to draw with your hand on the screen:

When you first touch the screen with the initial settings of the tablet and draw, the hand that touches the screen is recognized as a brush, and unwanted lines may be drawn on the canvas. In that case, you can easily solve it by simply tapping the icon with the upper left finger.

If you click the "Use different tools with your finger and pen" button, the Preferences-Touch Gestures window will appear. Here you can check and set the separate touch gesture functions.

2. How to set pen pressure (❁ ´◡` ❁)

Since pen pressure is an important factor when drawing, I recommend setting it. To set the pen pressure, click the clip studio icon and select the menu titled Adjust pen pressure detection level.

If you select [Adjust], you can draw a line on the canvas to make adjustments. After making adjustments, click [Check Adjustment Result]. Try adjusting harder and softer to set the pen pressure you want!

2. Using the mobile version of Clip Studio

See the official tips for how to keep working on your PC by syncing it in the cloud so you can work on your own mobile.

Drawing on a tablet can be used in a variety of situations, such as when you are working on a PC and want to go out while working on a PC, take a break to draw on a sofa, or draw outdoors.

In my case, I use it to draw a person that fits the background.

For example, if you have a building or scenery you like when you go out and walk down the street,

You can take a picture right on your tablet and apply it to your drawing.

In addition to that, I'm also using a feature called a pose scanner.

The pose scanner is of course great for implementing the desired pose,

In particular, it is very helpful to refer to the person in the composition I want to draw.

In this way, you can put your favorite background photo,

Import and place a portrait model with the pose scanner.

And we are doing initial work by tracing method.

I often draw a storyboard, a task that requires a lot of composition.

In that case, it really helps a lot.
