Easy Steps To Draw and Paint Chibi Character
drawing the body
hello everyone
You know chibi bodies are relatively small to the head and I will explain how to draw a chibi head and body using 3d materials in clip studio paint and from a simple knowledge
first, go to window then 3d materials
then choose the body type female or male(chibi female or male mostly are the same ) and drag the model over the canvas
Click on the figure until the manipulator appears so you drag the [Scale] inward and it will scale down the 3D object material or Drag the [Scale] outward and it will scale up the 3D object material
You can adjust the figure body parts from here , you can create your own pose manipulating the body parts and movements
You can see the buttons above the figure are called The movement manipulator and The [Object launcher] is a launcher shown in the lower part of a 3D material
the arrow I put toward the button is called the Body shape section. here You can change the body shape of the selected 3D drawing figure.
Here you can edit the body ratios. You know chibi heads are bigger than their body, Here I chose 55 centimeters for the height And 2 point 6 for the head ratio
choose from the poses that appear here
Use the pose you like
press on the pose then drag it directly over the figure you have chose
Bring down the opacity of the 3d materials layer then create a new layer over it and start sketching
drawing the head and body from simplfied knowledge
The first step of a chibi character is the head.
When drawing a chibi character, focus on the overall roundness and remember that the head is spherical.
draw a simple circle
add soft curve for the jaw along the circle
add a curved cinter line to show the sphere then simple ovals for the eyes
then make the lines more connected and neat
add the volume of the hair along the sphere
simple c curves for the nose and mouth
follow the same steps for the side profile but the jaws are narrower with only one cheek-side appears
create a well-balanced body measured as three-head-tall .avoid the very details of the hand and feet
thin and short neck
simple round rib cage and a spherical pelvis without showing the waist
you can define the personality of the character through their body
moody, funny, strict, dreamy .......etc
try to simplify the shapes of the feet and hands into squares, spheres, and lines so you can build above it believable hands and feet. it doesn't have to be real nor like a full manga character
draw cute facial expression
what makes the chibi character unique is the cute emotional facial expression
and there are many different expressions
you should focus on eyebrows, eyes, and mouth to create the most emotional effect
inking
I created a Victor layer above my draft to ink the character
I chose victor layer because I can easily edit and refine my lines using the buttons that appear on the layer property
I can easily delete the
intersectional lines using vector eraser as it shows here
all done neatly
coloring
Now I create a new group layer for every section I’m going to paint
Skin, hair, clothes, etc and I fill them separately
I clip a new layer above the painted layer so I can paint my shadows
Any content on the clipped layer that is outside of the drawn area of the lower layer will not be shown. This allows you to add extra details without going outside of the area of the lower layer.
use the gradient tool for both adding shadows and depth to your colors as I did here for the skin, I chose 2 colors
I chose to add highlights for the hair using the curve ballon for this kind of style
background
I fill the sky and the clouds with colors that represent a cold rainy spring day
continue to add the shadows and the light of the sun
I added sparks and stars using the decoration tool
all done
Thank you so much
here is a video version for all the process of inking and painting
enjoy
