Today, I'll explain how to draw "sparkling, unique eyes" in five steps.

 

I'll also introduce some easy tips for making them look gorgeous.

①Draft

First, draw a simple eye shape using a light color. (This is called an atari.)

 

Draw the eyelashes and the pupil on a separate layer.

 

Draw detailed eyelashes and eyelid lines as desired.

 

Draw highlights on the pupil. Drawing on the eyelids and eyelashes will give a glossy look.

 

Points

Decide the position of the highlights at this stage. This will serve as a reference when painting.

Blurring the edges of the pupils a little will make them look watery.

②Paint the eye color

Applying a small amount of black or a bright color such as red or blue to the edges of the highlights will make them appear brighter.

 

Apply a color that is slightly darker than the pupil on top. Apply an even darker color to the edges.

 

Draw the pupil. Darken the edges slightly.

 

If you like, draw in the iris (the pattern inside the eye).

Apply a light color to the bottom of the pupil.

 

Tips

Applying a dark color around the highlights and at the borders between colors will create a sense of transparency and sparkle.

This highlighting brush is convenient because it already has a rim.

③ Drawing

Paint a dark color around the lighter edge you painted under the pupil.

 

Draw reflected light on the pupil. Paint the edge with a dark color and draw the shadow of the eyelashes.

Draw fine light around the lower edge of the pupil.

 

Use the airbrush to apply a little red color to the blurred parts of the pupil.

 

Apply a thin layer of red color to the edges of the eyelashes.

 

Key Points

Applying red color to the eyelashes and edges of the pupil will bring out a healthy glow and create a sense of transparency.

④Addition

Draw highlights on the eyelashes using a light color. (Drawing lines with an eraser will make them look more like eyelashes.)

 

Paint the black parts of the eyelashes using a dark color, leaving only the edges. Using a similar color to the eyes will create a unified look.

 

Draw white eyelashes if you like. Draw the whites of the eyes as well.

Paint the shadow of the whites of the eyes using a slightly darker color, then paint a lighter color leaving the edges.

 

Draw makeup if you like.

 

Tips

By making the edges of the eyelashes darker, you can create a clear but not too dark look.

Leaving the areas near the highlights of the eyelashes dark will create a sparkling impression.

⑤Finishing

Draw fine highlights with vivid colors.

Set the layer mode to Overlay and use the airbrush to apply a dark color to the top of the eye and a light color to the bottom. Adjust the layer opacity to your liking.

 

Use a prism brush or glitter brush to make the inside of the eye and the lower eyelid sparkle.

Set the layer mode to Glow Dodge.

 

Points

Adjust the opacity of the Glow Dodge layer.

The prism on the lower eyelid in the image has an opacity of 20%.
