Hello! In this tutorial I am going to show you how to make animated illustrations in Clip Studio Paint.

Create a new project

As you can see, I prepared this sketch and now I will draw it all from start to finish, showing you my tips and tricks to bring your art to life with little animations.

I bought doble-device monthly plan for Clip Studio Paint Ex. This sketch I drew on my iPad but now you see my Wacom. So, I already have an animation folder and so on, but now I will save this image and create a new project to show you how to configure project settings.

Very simply, click File -> New and create a new project.

Now you can increase canvas size just like me. Then enable this feature “Create animated illustration”. Click OK.

Turn on Timeline

Great, we created a project. But where are our animation frames and so on? Click Window and Timeline, New window will appear. Here you can create your animations, new frames, make animations longer or shorter. If you have Clip Studio Paint Pro, you can make up to 25 frames, but with Clip Studio Ex, as you can see, there's no limit.

Draw a picture

Now I will import my very-very simple sketch here. If you wanna draw on the photo which you import, just click Layer and Rasterize, now you have this ability, Okay, now I should just start to draw. I will draw each object on the new layer and recommend doing it for you too, because it will make our achieving the goal much easier.

I wanna draw cozy summer art,  because now is summer and it will be perfect to be present in the summer mood longer and brightly. I hope you have a nice summer, even if you don’t have a lot of time for drawing. Maybe I didn't rest by the sea, yes, but I have my tablet and desire to draw. Artists exist to paint what sometimes cannot be seen, right? And often, in general, in order to draw something that does not seem to exist. We simply find new combinations of things we have seen. Because we would not be able to imagine and draw, for example, a new color. We don't see all colors, yes, so we can't even imagine a new color yet, this is a little crazy, how do you think?

Animate steam from a cup

Great, I drew my picture, it’s time to animate. Let's make an animation of steam from a cup.  To do this, open the animation folder and create new layers in it. After that, you can start drawing a sketch. When the animation sketch is complete, you can reduce the transparency of this animation folder and create a new one. Start drawing the final animation.

Animate plants and fur (wind power)

When the wind is blowing in your picture, you can also make other little animations. I will animate fur and sunflower petals.

But this time I will use the Liquify tool for that. Duplicate the first frame and make little movement with the Liquify tool. Then duplicating again and repeating after the result will be nice.

You can even copy and paste several layers (frames).
