How to draw windy hair tutorial
Hii, today i'll show you how to draw windy hair.
This is my first tutorial i've shown up here, so please bear with me (>///<)
Step 1 - Sketch
Before you want to draw windy hair, I recommend you start off by sketching a character.
For sketching I always use a watercolor brush. But any brush tool will be fine.
Step 2 - Wind directions
After the sketching part and you've decided that you're happy to go.
Before getting to that part. Do this first
I'll choose for a black color to draw with, since it's easier to determine which direction it goes. But once again, you can pick any color you like.
Name the layer "Hair Directions"
Start off by drawing random arrows around the head from the top to below.
Each grey/black-ish line (I call them flow arrows). represents the effect of the hair.
A small tip for drawing hair, just don't grip too tight onto your pen.
Just do it with a loose hand.
As you can see in the picture above, each hair piece follows the flow arrows of the hair.
Step 3 - Line art
To create the line art I use the normal G-Pen.
Your line art should come out like this
Step 4 - Color palette
Create a fun or cool pallet what matches your idea for the character you've created.
You can also do this by looking for inspiration on Pinterest, Tumblr or any other platform.
As you can see above, my color pallet is a bit messy as long as you understand by yourself which or what colors you want to use.
For me as artist, I love to write down for what I am going to use it.
Step 5 - Color time
Create a "New Layer Folder", place 4 layers in to the folder.
And name them separately;: "Skin base", "Hair base", "Eye base" and "T-shirt".
This is the way how I did it.
The results come out like this.
Step 7 - Shadow
Whoohoo!! We're almost done!
Next up is to create shadows for the hair and skintone.
Repeat these steps 3 times and place every empty layer above the base.
For creating the shadows I personally use the Tunip pen and Close and fill tool.
For creating shadows it is always important to think about where the light source is comming from. Think of a invisible light bulb that shines on your character.
Final work
For creating your final artwork you can color the outlines of your character by the same way I did with the "clip layer below" function.
