Introduction

Hello, this is rat night.

Thank you for reading the article!

Here, we will introduce how to draw beautiful line art and some tips.

Please read to the end

Wrist group? Elbow school?

There are two ways to draw a line, one is to use the snap of the wrist to draw, and the other is to move the arm from the elbow as the starting point.

In order to draw a beautiful line, it is important for you to determine which method can draw a stable line.

Basically, when drawing with the wrist, the range where the line can be drawn is narrow, so it is suitable for drawing fine parts, and when drawing with the elbow, the range of movement is wide, so long lines and lines with momentum are drawn. I think it is suitable for.

Therefore, wrist people may find it difficult to draw long lines, and elbow people may find it difficult to draw small details.

When drawing in analog, both methods are necessary because the size of the canvas cannot be changed, but in Clip Studio, you can always draw in a way that is easy for you to draw by changing the magnification of the canvas.

I'm a wrist sect, so when I draw long lines, I often reduce the screen.

Strong and weak

It depends on the pattern, but in most cases it is better to be aware of the three-dimensional effect from the time of line art when drawing a picture.

Rather than drawing with a monotonous single line as shown on the left, you can create a three-dimensional effect by changing the thickness of the line as shown on the right.

By drawing the one in the foreground with a thick line and the one in the distance with a thin line, you can get a sense of perspective.

In addition, it is possible to express light with just lines by drawing thick shadows and thin areas that are exposed to light.

You can also give your personality by adding strength and weakness to the lines, such as making the outline thicker and the drawing inside thinner, so please try various things.

Line art

Now it's time to practice.

This time, I will make this illustration into a line art.

If the rough color remains black, it will be difficult to draw a line art, so leave the rough layer selected and apply the layer color from the layer properties to change the color.

The layer property is placed under the color circle by default, but if you can't find it, select "Window"-> "Layer Property" from the menu above to display it.

When I applied the layer color, it turned blue like this.

You can change the color to your liking, so make it easy for you to see.

Decrease the transparency and draw a line on another layer.

From here on, it's a little difficult to explain with just the screenshots, so I hope you'll read it while watching the video.

It is difficult to draw a beautiful line with one shot, so let's draw the ideal line little by little while using ctrl + Z many times.

You can erase the protruding part, so please draw it comfortably.

If it's a little rough, you can use the transformation tool to fix it.

If it's hard to draw, rotate or flip the canvas so that you can draw at an angle that is easy for you to draw.

It is recommended to separate the layers for each part because it is easier when you want to modify it later.

If you draw the invisible parts such as the collar and the back legs that overlap with the neck and front legs, they will not shift strangely and will be finished without any discomfort.

If you erase the overlapping part with a layer mask instead of an eraser, you do not have to redraw it when you want to correct the position later.

Vector layer and raster layer

By the way, most of the parts are drawn, and the rest is the shoelaces.

Since the shoelaces are complicatedly overlapped, it is difficult to increase the layers one by one and erase the overlapped part.

So I would like to use a vector layer for this part.

There are two types of layers, vector layers and raster layers, and usually raster layers are mainly used.

The red frame is the raster layer and the blue frame is the vector layer.

Roughly speaking, a raster layer is a layer that expresses a picture by adding color to fine dots.

It is a versatile layer that can be used for both line art and painting, but it has the disadvantage that the picture becomes rough when enlarged.

The vector layer is a layer specialized for line art.

A control point is created for the line drawn on the vector layer, and a line is drawn so as to connect the points. Since the lines are created based on the information of the control points instead of the dots, the image quality does not become rough even if the image is enlarged, and the positions of the control points can be corrected one by one, so the lines can be shifted by shifting the points. You can change it.

Now, let's draw shoelaces using the vector layer.

In addition, if you use a vector eraser, you can easily erase overlapping lines and protruding lines, which will save you time when drawing line art.

The disadvantages are that the data will be larger than the raster layer and it is not suitable for painting.

Camera shake will be corrected a little, so I want to draw a tasteful line! It may not be suitable for those who say.

I basically use vector layers, which allow me to draw more intuitively, and sometimes I use layers such as rasters when drawing neat or complex objects.

Now, let's draw shoelaces using the vector layer.

As a guide, I drew the flow of the string with a red line, and hidden the layers other than the shoes to make it easier to see.

I will draw the part of the butterfly knot and the other part separately.

Erase the overlapping part with a vector eraser.

I was able to easily draw complicated shoelaces!

Draw the other shoe in the same way.

Line width correction

Now you can draw a line all over.

However, when you look at the whole, the perspective is a little weak.

The strength of the lines is fine, but in order to make it easier to understand the front and back, I would like to make the front foot line thicker and the back hand line thinner.

It's okay to trace the line again to make it thicker, but it's a daunting task and I'd like to make an easy adjustment using the line width correction tool.

Enclose the layer for which you want to change the line thickness, or the part you want to modify using the selection tool.

Select "Filter"-> "Line art correction"-> "Line width correction" from the menu.

Then a pop-up will be displayed.

In terms of processing content, select whether to make the line thicker or thinner, and adjust the thickness with the scaling value.

If you check the place to leave 1 pixel, it will not disappear if the line disappears when you make it thinner, so it is recommended to check it.

You can easily make the line thicker!

In the same way, thin your back hand.

I made the back hand thin, but if you look closely, the lines are rough.

In such a case, apply "Blur" from "Filter", and then apply "Sharp" again from "Filter".

Then, the jerky feeling mentioned earlier will be alleviated and it will become familiar with other lines.

After correcting the line width, you can add it or scrape it with an eraser to make it fit the whole without any discomfort.

Finally, check if there are any lines that are not connected.

If all the lines are connected, it will be easier when painting.

After checking if all are connected, the margin part is automatically selected instead of the inside of the character. Once you have selected all the margins, flip the selection and fill it with a bucket.

This completes the line art and undercoating.

Thank you for your hard work!

Finally

Thank you for watching so far.

I hope it helps those who have read it even a little.

I will continue to post TIPS, so I hope to see you in another article.
