Step 1: scanning sketch book

If you have access to a printer this would be the time to upload a scanned picture of your sketch to your iPad or tablet. If you do not have a printer, simply use a scanning app in some good lighting to get a clear picture of your sketch.

Step 2: importing to csp

Go to [file]>[import]>[from photo library] and select the scan of your sketch and adjust the size as you want.

Step 3: rasterising

Then go to [layer]>[rasterise] to convert the layer from a vector based image into a raster layer, so that your able to edit it later on.

Step 4: level correction

Go to [edit]>[tonal correction]>[level correction] this will allow you to adjust the colours of the raster layer, it is important that these colours are black and white. If your sketch isn’t greyscale skip to steps 5.

Step 5: converting to greyscale

In layer properties change the [expression colour] option to [monochrome] in order to make the image grey scale.

Step 6: darkening lines

After opening level correction, adjust the 3 arrows so that the pencil markings on your sketch disappear, and that your lines are completely filled in with black. Use the middle slider to adjust the level of pixelation around the lines. And press okay when your satisfied with the lines

Step 7: final lineart adjustments

If your line art is thicker than mine is then you can go to gradient map after completing all the other steps, and click the [drawing colour] or the [black white] gradient map and adjusting the sliders until the unfilled pixels are fully black, since sometimes the level correction wont fill all the areas in for thicker lineart.

Final notes

If you wish to turn the final drawing back into its original colour, then just repeat steps 5 but change the [expression colour] back into [colour]!
