Introduction

It is a pleasure to greet you, I am Suret and this time we will use 3 ways to draw hands, by blocks, using your own hands as a reference and 3D models.

All this we can unify it to facilitate our learning of how to draw hands.

Drawing hands is one of the most difficult things for many, including myself,

but with these methods we can do it, remember that: The Practice makes you a master.

Video

Learning the structure of the hands

Let's start.

First we have to know the bone structure of the hands and then simplify it in blocks, just as shown in the example. The circles simulate being the joints.

Let's look at the separation between the fingers, never make the finger joints like a V.

The thumb has the most freedom of movement.

Remember to draw the thumb bone as it is very important to be able to do it.

Now we will see the guidelines of the hand this will help you know what is the correct size fingers and so on.

When we do the hands seen from the front or something similar, they look like the second example. The hand curves slightly.

If we make the hand of the external profile, you can see how the knuckles protrude

The size in proportion to the body should be enough to cover the face.

Let's draw some examples to familiarize ourselves with the block method

We start by drawing a sketch of the hand, you can adjust it until you are satisfied

Then draw the joints of the fingers and thumb.

Finger lines are optional, if you feel it is easier to draw them, using them you can do it like this, otherwise they can be omitted, although sometimes can be useful.

We draw the fingers and then we draw the Line Art

In this way the drawing of the cover was made.

Examples, block method

Let's keep looking at other examples

Remember to think 3D when you are drawing your hands. Draw the parts, even if they are not seen in the final drawing.

If you draw a hand in profile you can only make one joint for all the fingers.

These are the basic figures for drawing hands in profile.

This pose has a little perspective

This hand simulates being supported on a round surface. You can use this method as a basis to mix other ways, using your own hands for reference or a 3D design.

It will allow you to adjust the guidelines to your liking, and design them for a specific scene.

Women's hands are slimmer and don't have as many wrinkle lines or muscles.

One tip to make them more feminine is to draw some pretty nails.

Unlike men who are bigger and with more wrinkles

Using your hands as a reference

Let's see how to use your own hands as a reference

We create a new canvas, then go to the menu -File - Import - Image

You can take a photo and trace it, but it will not fit you, it will look a little strange.

With the method we saw earlier, we will have to make some modifications to make it look good in our illustration. As you can see in this example.

You can also just see your hands and draw them using the block method, as you do it you will realize that it will get easier and also in this way you can have access to a quick image to draw simple or complicated poses but for the most complex we can use 3D models!

Let's see!

Using 3D models

For this we go to the materials menu

We choose the 3D folder

We choose the body type, then we drag the position of the model on top of the one we already had

We select - Hand - and we choose a position.

Here we have a wide variety of hand poses, you can choose one to do it, or also you can modify it a little or in its entirety if you wish.

We drag the position of hands

Preparation

You can move the model with the mouse buttons and also the buttons that appear on the screen.

Left click to rotate, right click to zoom in or out, middle button to move and the wheel for perspective.

You can interact with the controls to get used to them, they are not that complicated !!

We adjust the light and body morphology.

Now we adjust the hand as we wish, we move the fingers touching the one we want to modify.

We can also adjust the size of the hand

For perspective, we choose the option - manga perspective -

Having the desired pose, we are going to extract the line

Line extraction

For that we go to the menu - Layer - LT Conversion of layer-

A window with various options will appear

We can select between a raster layer or a vector layer, I recommend the vector layer as it will be easier to work. The options on the right side can be omitted these are for shadows and other details.

For now we are only interested in the lines

With the other options on the left you can test them and experience how the lines look, but personally with this configuration it was the best thing I had left the lines.

We click OK

And we already have our lines, although we have to make a few adjustments

With the eraser and selecting the option - Vector Eraser -.

We can erase only the area it touches, the line to the intersection, or an entire line.

You can draw on top of the 3D model the block method to memorize the position of the hand and so then draw it without the need for a 3D model.

As I mentioned before a good way to make beautiful women's hands is to draw some simple but beautiful nails.

In this way they will fit us well and without complicating our lives.

We have our hand ready !!

I hope this tutorial is useful to you and thank you very much for your time.

See you next time!
