Hi, my name is Jacob Penna, and want to tell you welcome and do you want to make a weather illustration? Let’s get started.

 

 

I would like to personally select the colors from lightest to darkest, for example, you can use the eye dropper tool to add the colors you need for the sky.

Here’s an illustration example of how to do it:

If you’re wondering what colors to choose for your drawing, and want to make it more unique, don’t worry, you can try the color harmony method.

What i’ve learn over the years of illustrating, choosing from light gray and dark gray, and using your own color can really make your color pop.

It can be any color really, from light pink to dark pink, or what I like to call it, the “1 , 2 , 3, 4 method. Find whats lightest to darkest, so your mind can think what unique color combinations it can create.

Once you get that settled, now it time to make a illustration. What kind of weather do you want to make? Here’s a few examples.

There’s 3 ways of a different weather illustration. Morning, Afternoon, Evening….

and that’s not even the main ones.

 

There’s hundreds of difference combinations out there, you can do from, Is Morning, but a nice cloudy day, is a nice hot afternoon, but a great day to walk with my dog and the evening is a nice a chilly night, lets head out to view the city, or check out some people cooking.

I was taking a walk one day, and think to myself, today is a nice weather to see beautiful lights just like this one.

As you can see, it shows a beautiful light from the buildings your viewing right now, which is the inspiration for this illustration I made, a nice cool weather night, spending time with the love of his life. Not exactly the same illustration, but is there.

(For the pineapples custom brush, i’ll make a separate tutorial on that later.)

Cold weather and a hot meal is a great combinations when it comes to weather illustration. Or a hot day but a delicious smoothie, it can be whatever flavor smoothie you want actually.

 

Here, I made some examples on some examples, how the morning, afternoon, and night works.

Another thing when it comes to weathers, is a stormy one or a light one, here’s a few examples.

When you think of stormy winds, you think of strong wind, wind blowing, a lot of rain pouring.

When it comes to soft rains, not much, but is nice, and relaxing, a great way for a nice cool rainy day and relax for some soft cocoa.

When it comes to clouds, focus on the shadows, in most cases, sometimes the sun will appear behind the clouds, or half way and it’ll show a ray of sunlight.

Actually, is great for a good day in the beach for some cases.

Now, get out there, explore, and make some illustration. The key for a good illustration, is going out and seeing a lot of places.

 

Make a couple of notes and focus on the details of the different shadings whether if is a beautiful mix of a orange and purple, or a blue and purple, but for every art director out there, make it unique.
