Design of a space landscape with the characters
Used tools
Pen:
- For the first two stages
I intend to use the pen
to design my sketch.
Lasso :
- The lasso to delimit
the shapes of the planet,
lake, characters, etc.
Paint bucket :
- And the paint bucket
to fill in color the selected shapes with the lasso.
First step - The realization of the sketch:
- I start by drawing the sketch of the drawing.
- I imagine a decor by creating a universe,
characters, a world, a landscape,…
- I place the characteristics of the universe of my drawing.
- Then I integrate planets in the background,
a lake, concrete ruins, in the upper plane,
then the foreground characters.
Second step - The placement of colors:
- I place the colors on each element in order to have
an overall idea of the result.
- I apply the first effects by doing the
reflection of the big planet at lake level.
- I add vegetable moss on the ruins,
as well as three comets in what will be later
space.
Work on aspects
Air-brush
The Airbrush allows me to get
a soft line, perfect for adding
the shadows, the lights, the fog
etc.
mixer
The Mixer tool allows him,
as indicated by his name,
to mix or stretch the colors.
Software pre-recorded material
Thanks to various pre-registered materials
I have access to several panels
background, which allows me
to get the starry sky effect.
Third step - Add details:
- I use the "Airbrush" tool to add the
bluish, green and purple colors.
- Immediately afterwards I work on the form with the tool
"Mixer (fingertip)" for better
blend the color and make it look more real.
- Then I add a few stars.
Step Four - Use the fingertip of the Mixer tool:
- First I use the "Airbrush" tool to
darken the space and
also to trace the outline of the sun.
- Then always with the same tool, I draw
big red spirals on the planet.
- Here, I take the Mixer tool and I use my fingertip
in the red spiral to create the tornado look.
Step Five - The Shadows and Lights of the Planet
- I start by placing the shadows with the tool
"Airbrush" and with the "Mixer" tool
I put the shadow in the red spirals.
- With the "Eyedropper" tool I take the color of the ray
in order to apply it on the face exposed to the sun of
the planet
Sixth stage - The lake and the reflections
- I duplicate the background, the planet and the ruins then
I embed them in the lake so that
it looks like the reflection.
- I apply a strain filter to
create a ripple in the reflections.
- And I draw a layer of white fog
with the "Watercolor" tool more precisely:
"Watercolor with fuzzy edges" while erasing
delicately certain areas with the tool
"Soft eraser" from "Eraser"
The secondary tool (decoration)
The various options for using the secondary tool
allow me to save a lot of time thanks, in particular, to the option
vegetation that allows you to use and insert the pre-recorded herb image
in my production
Seventh step - Shadows and lights of the ruins
- I place the shadows so
consistent with sunlight all
respecting the form
stone.
- I add light on the faces
exposed to the sun, then I turn yellow
with the "Airbrush" on the light parts.
Step Eight - Details of Vegetable Moss
- First I add a light green filter on the lake.
- Next, with lighter shades of green
i will start creating the lighted areas
vegetable moss.
- I apply the same technique for the zones
shade and all this with the tool
"Airbrush" assisted by the inlay
"Grassland vegetation" of the secondary tool
Ninth step - Finalization of the drawing
- First, I apply with the "Airbrush" tool, the shadow on the characters.
- Second, I add the light on the parts of their body exposed to the sun, and I work the natural light of their body
using gum to give that shiny appearance.
- Third, I create a pink / purple light source on their back for a better look.
Final production
I'm adding the last details to make the illustration more real.
And here's the result :
