My Speed Painting - How to add a glow effect on a painting
Introduction
Hello there.
I am Eggylicky and this is my first time giving this whole Speed Painting thing a try out. Using Clip Studio Paint has genuinely changed the way I work on my art. I love using everything that CSP has to offer, including brushes and effects.
In this particular video, I explore the glowing effect and I show you how to use it yourself. (I truly hope I made it easy enough to understand.)
With this Speed Painting I wanted to mainly show you my general process of how I sketch, colour, render and finish a piece. But I had to add the glowing effect because it's something I usually add to my art.
Below, you will find a step by steps tip on how to do that.
I thank you for checking my video and tutorial and I hope you will try this tip out.
SLIDE 1
In this first slide, we simply add any colour (in this case orange and yellow) to the part of the painting we want to add a glowing effect. I use the Gouache brush to do this and I randomly add large strokes.
SLIDE 2
In the second slide, as you can see, we click on our layer on our right (that we drew in slide 1) and click above the layers on the "blending mode" (the default set is normal). We choose the "VIVID LIGHT" mode.
SLIDE 3
Our next step is to play around (optional) with the lighting a bit more. Click on the "EDIT" tab (step 1), select "Tonal Correction (D)", "Hue/Saturation/Luminosity (Ctrl+U)". Play around to see what you like best (step 2).
SLIDE 4
This is a very important step. In order for our glow not to look that harsh, blur effect helps to smooth things out. Click on the "Filter tab" (step 1), select "Blur" and then "Motion Blur". Slide the bar towards the middle to set it the way you prefer and choose. Moreover, set the "Direction"tab below to "Both Directions". (step 2).
SLIDE 5
Our final step is pretty much optional but I usually do it. Adding small details here and there on top of our blurry glowing layer with any brush we like (I use the gouache one) makes the piece look more alive and a bit crispier (if that makes sense).
THANK YOU
