Hi everyone!

In this tutorial I will show you how to make your own flower patterns and / or compositions without

seamless joints in CLIP STUDIO PAINT quickly and easily.

Let us begin!

1. Workspace

First:

Select [File] → [New] create a new canvas.

⬧︎ The important thing is that the width and height MUST BE THE SAME.

I use 100px X 100px / 600 dpi. but you can use a smaller one.

2. Composition

You can help with photographic references or other flower illustrations to sketch the composition. I used a Sakura tree branch.

⬧︎ The strokes MUST NOT TOUCH THE EDGES of the canvas.

Since my pattern is in color I used another layer of background color to better see the light tones. But it can be black and white or the technique that you like the most.

I used 3 colors and the [opaque watercolor] brush.

⬧︎ Once finished the flowers should be in a single layer (except for the background)

3. Construction step 1

We will make a mark on each side of our canvas. (see red marks)

⬧︎ The marks MUST go beyond the edge. This is very important for our seamless pattern to RESULT.

⬧︎ Both the finished composition and the marks must be on the same layer (except the background).

4. Construction step 2

We right click on the layer of our flowers

[Convert Layer] → Type [Image Material Layer] OK.

Then we will press the operation tool [Object] → Tool property [Reason] and select.

We will move the selection until we find the most "empty" area of our composition.

⬧︎ It does not matter in which position the initial selection is.

5. Construction step 3

We will repeat step 2 but this time in reverse:

Right click on the layer of our flowers [Convert layer] → Type [Raster layer] OK.

We erase the red border marks and we will make new flowers to fill in those empty spaces.

We move our new flowers looking for a harmony of space between objects.

⬧︎ Make sure that new objects do NOT touch the edges of the canvas.

We will repeat step 2

Right click on the layer of our flowers [Convert layer] → Type [Image material layer] OK.

Pressing the operation tool [Object] → Tool property [Reason] and select. We look for new "empty" areas within the composition.

Then repeat step 3

Right click on the layer of our flowers [Convert layer] → Type [Raster layer] OK.

We can fill with new objects, such as petals, new flowers or whatever you think is convenient for the composition.

You can repeat these steps as many times as you want until you are satisfied with your composition.

6. Save material

Drag the layer of your final composition to your materials folder.

Double-click the material → [Material Properties] to change its name.

⬧︎ Remember to leave the Reason option selected [Repeat]

I leave you the final process and other examples!

7. Applications of the pattern

To use the pattern we can drag the material directly onto the canvas and delete the areas that we don't need or drag it to a selection or layer mask.

In case of being used in flat areas it is not necessary to modify it much more. We can enlarge, reduce or rotate the pattern to our liking before rasterizing.

In order to modify our pattern to more complex shapes we must do

Right click on the [Rasterize] layer

Deselect the bond between the pattern layer and the layer mask.

Now if we can modify the pattern to the required shape, transforming, distorting free or in perspective, as an example I will use a circular shape.

For that we make a selection larger than the shape in the pattern layer (the selection can be rectangular)

Click Edit [Transform] → [Mesh Transform]

By default the mesh comes with 16 lattice points, but you can modify the amount in the tool's properties window. Both horizontally and vertically.

⬧︎ You can only modify them before you start moving them.

We move the lattice points so that the pattern adapts to the shape we want.

Once ready, click [OK]

I will leave examples of other forms and applications.

And this is the end!

I hope this tutorial has helped you and if you have any questions don't hesitate to comment!
