Most useful layer types

Hello everyone, in this tutorial I will show, in the easiest way possible, the type of layers and how I use them in my drawings.

I know this program has a lot more different layers than I will name, but I wanted to focus only on the ones that are most useful to me.

Here I am going to leave a brief summary of the video.

Change layer color:

Normally I draw the sketch using a blue color, but if you like to draw it in black and then change it to blue, you just have to click here, where it says change layer color and it will turn blue, if you don't like blue in this the little arrow You can choose the color that you like the most. And then you lower the opacity until it is comfortable for you.

Adjust layer:

Once we have the base color we create a new layer on top and now, very important, we click here, to adjust to the lower layer, as you can see it has been set to pink, this action will make everything you paint, not exceed the color of the bottom layer, that makes the job much easier.

Multiply mode:

I usually paint the shadows with a pinkish color, but if we do it in a normal layer it looks very bad, right? That is fixed by changing the layer merge mode to multiply mode

You see the effect, the shadow respects the colors under it.

When we finish shading we can play with the opacity if you want the shadows to be lighter or if you want them darker, just right click and duplicate the shadow layer, it all depends on the environment you want to give it.

Add shine:

We are going to give it a little shine, we create another layer and drag it over the shadow layer and we are going to put it in add shine mode.

We can create several layers, one for the strongest highlights and the same one for the weakest highlights, since this way we can play with the opacity, as I said before it all depends on the environment you want to give it.

Color mode:

Well, now as you can see, the cold colors of the background that I put on it do not match very well with the warm colors of the character, so we are going to harmonize them by changing the tone of the girl so that she looks more blue.

We create a layer equal to the first ones, adjusted to the base color layer and drag it to the top, take a blue color, fill it and then change the layer to color mode. As before, we can play with opacity until we like it.

Lock pixel:

To finish, one last thing that may interest you is the option to block pixel,

Here I show you using it in the lineart layer, if I block it I can easily change the color of the lines, for the example I'm going to do it with pink to make it look better.

When we activate lock pixel on a layer, you can only paint on what is already painted, rather, you cannot paint on transparent pixels.

This is very useful for those who do not like the line of a single color, for example, the skin of one color, the hair of another etc ...

And like any other layer we can correct the tone, lighting, opacity, whatever we want.

Well, that would be all for today, although there are many more types of layers, these are the ones I use the most and which I think are the most useful in general.

I hope it has served you!
