IDEA

The first thing we need is to have an idea to know what the drawing is going to be about.

Since it is a fantastic world, you are free to do what you want. As impossible beings in our real world such as fairies, Martians, elves, dragons, ogres, etc. You can also add imaginary worlds and magical elements to make your work more interesting, all based on your tastes and your imagination.

My recommendation would be that with your idea you try to create a story or visual information to make your work more fun and better. Specifying what is going to be like the protagonist or the main objective and its action, does not have to have characters but it is usually easier if you make use of them.

SKETCH

After having thought about your idea of what you are going to draw, you are going to try to draw it without much detail in order to finish clarifying your idea. It doesn't matter if you need to make several sketches, choose the one you like the most.

Imagine what the place where your idea is going to be developed would be like, for example, in the sky, on the earth, in the ocean or even in the universe. Also choose what or who would be the protagonist and his action.

After finished the sketch, I will show you ways to achieve a good work based on your idea sketch.

PERSPECTIVE

What perspective does is simulate objects in three dimensions, generating an optical illusion from the viewer's point of view.

In addition, it must be taken into account that the perspective changes according to the direction of the camera in the plane.

But don't worry, perspective can be achieved using vanishing points.

LEAK POINTS

A vanishing point is where the parallel lines of an image converge towards infinity, that is, where our gaze points to that will be our vanishing point.

In natural backgrounds, since it is not very necessary to use so much perspective, you can use freehand perspective for simple things, but you can also use perspective with a ruler if you want and more if you need to make a house, a building, etc.

ENABLING AND DISABLING VANISHING POINTS

There are two ways to create vanishing points:

1. The vanishing points that are created automatically:

  • Right mouse button on the layer
  • Select "Ruler/Vignette"
  • Select "Create perspective ruler"
  • Choose how many vanishing points you want your drawing to have and select "accept"

2. Create your own vanishing points from your sketch:

  • Select "Rule"
  • Select "Perspective ruler"
  • In "Processes" select "Add vanishing point"

At a minimum add two lines for the program to identify the vanishing point

You can also move the guides and enable the grids of each vanishing point:

  • Select "Operation"
  • Select "Object"
  • Then select the guide or the vanishing point to be able to move what you need

And if you want to enable grids:

-Go to "Selectable object", "Grid" will appear below and select the vanishing points you want to enable

  • And also if you want the horizon not to move, select "Set horizon line"

There are three ways to disable vanishing points:

1. Use another layer, since the rule will not affect it but only if "show on all layers" is disabled

2. Delete the rule

  • Right mouse button on the layer ruler (in the ruler figure)
  • Select "Delete rule"

3. Disable the rule (recommended)

  • Right mouse button on the layer ruler (in the ruler figure)
  • Select “Ruler Display” (so you can easily disable and enable the rule by selecting “Ruler Display”

1, 2 and 3 VANISHING POINTS

  • A vanishing point is mainly used to view objects head-on

  • The two vanishing points are mainly used to see a corner of an object
  • The three vanishing points are mainly used for buildings, with high angle and low angle shots

COMPOSITION AND VISUAL NARRATIVE

The composition is the order and the way in which objects are placed in an image with the aim of attracting the attention of the viewer. Along with the narration to communicate something and make understand who is the protagonist of the image and its action.

To balance the image, separating important and less important objects, there are several ways. But in summary, what they are used for is to attract the viewer's attention by separating the information from the space.

The ways to attract the attention of the viewer are:

-Points of interest (Rule of thirds, Fibonacci sequence, etc)

They are techniques that serve so that the main objects are at certain points of the image so that they attract the attention of the viewer.

Rule of thirds:

Fibonacci sequence:

-Contrast

Using a wide variety of shapes, it is possible to draw the viewer's attention to the main objective.

  • Light and darkness

For example: Light to highlight the main objects and shadow for the less important objects

  • Focused and unfocused

  • Detailed and non-detailed

  • Big and small

  • Etc

-Composition lines

Through the elements, they help the viewer to guide himself in the image and thus quickly reach the main objective, using the directions of the gazes, faces, hands, etc.

THEORY OF COLOR

It serves to know what are the color combinations and harmony, that is, the colors that work well together.

There are six types of harmonies:

  • Monochromatic: A single color changing its value

  • Analogous: The colors that are on the sides of the color we choose on the color wheel
  • Complementary: Colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel
  • Split Complementary: A color is opposite two colors adjacent to its complement
  • Triad: Three colors form a triangle on the chromatic wheel
  • Tetradic: uses four colors divided into two complementary pairs

Thank you very much to see! I promise to try harder for the next one 😅
