Instead holding just the "D" key Click (The shortcut for the Select Layer tool), I've tried that. Click button "D" not automatically back to previous tools.
Actually you just hold command/ctrl+shift and click with pencil drawing to part what you want, not necessarily with mouse and then if you release all button you can back previous tools automatically.
