Traditional to Digital
Back again folks! This time I’m giving a step by step tutorial on making a( comic/webcomic/manga ), by using the tradional to digital method.
In this post, I’m showing you pieces of my new webcomic ( LIFE OF ANIMALS ), to help through the process of making a comic.
Before penciling and inking, or even coloring, plan out your story first. Make sure you have your story written out, and a bunch of scripts set up before creating a comic, trust me it helps. A LOT. After doing all that, draw out your characters, and some of the locations they might want to live in or venture. Since this is not a concept art tutorial, it really helps for this kind of project.
Next, start thumbnailing. Grab a blank paper and draw out the panels for your scene. Next sketch out the details from the script onto the panel. Remember, it’s optional, thumbnailing is mostly a rough outline of your work, it doesn’t have to be defined yet.

Next step is penciling. Pencil over your thumbnails.
After penciling, we are going to convert what we’ve made on paper, to create a digital drawing. Use any device of your choice ( take a photo or scan ) to your computer.
Open up Clip Studio, ( remember this is for all platforms, but I’m making a webcomic ). I’m putting my setting to webcomic.
Next I position where my panels will go, and start inking my panel shape.
Next I ink over the penciled drawing.
Color in the lines.
Shadow and lighting.
Go through your script and type in the dialogue.
And there you have it. Comic done. You can export it, and send what you’ve made to your comic book publisher, or even post it yourself on Webtoon.
Sorry I can’t show you my webcomic now, but you’ll be reading it soon, this Fall.
If you’re itching to read one of BM7’s comics, click the link below. We used the same method in this tutorial for our other projects. CHECK IT OUT!
More tutorials in the near future. ( Hopefully not too distant ). For more past tutorials, check out our profile on Clip Studio.com, try following us to see more content.
