Hello everyone!

In this tutorial I will be showing you some tips and tricks on how to make your own seamless patterns on Clip Studio Paint!

Let's get started!

✦ Step 1. Brainstorming !

Before starting to draw, it always comes handy having some concepts or rough sketches for your idea. This was mine, which we will be cleaning up later!

✦ Step 2. Choosing a palette !

Colours are very important in an illustration, well, the same goes for any kind of graphic design!

Choose a palette that fits the mood you want to go for. If you're creating a pattern for a website, I recommend using a (slightly) desaturated palette.

✦ Step 3. Clean up !

After deciding a design, you will need to clean everything up. Draw each part of the design separately and save them in .png. Remember to make them transparent!

✦ Step 4. Starting the pattern !

After getting done all of our pieces for the pattern, open a new file with the settings below. Fill your canvas with the main colour of your palette and import ONLY the biggest picture of the ones you drew for your design.

After that, you will want to merge the layers, to do so, simply right click in any of the layers and select "Merge Visible Layers".

Now, click on the "Edit" tab, selecting "Register Material" > "Image" and mark the following:

✦ Step 5. Improving your pattern !

Now, drag your pattern in a new canvas (400x400 px, 150 dpi).

Move the design to a corner so it repeats itself.

And add the rest of the pictures you drew for your design!

Finally, repeat the 4th step (No need to create a new canvas though!) and you will be done!

✦ Step 6. Done!

(Can I even consider this a step?)

Is there a better way of seeing how your pattern looks than trying it? I don't think so! Simply drag your pattern again into a new file.

Thank you so much for reading and I hope it helped you!
