1. BASIC SOUND EFFECTS WITH TEXT TOOL (NON-DESTRUCTIVE)

1A. Basic text on top of the drawing

Choose an impressive font and add a Border effect so your text can stand out from the drawing.

Sketch the text on a draft layer.

I type the text (the letter "A") with the text tool [T]. Rotate and resize it with the Object tool [O] and add a white Border effect.

Duplicate the text ([Ctrl + C] the text layer then choose a non-text layer, [Ctrl + V]). Resize and move it according to the sketch.

Finish.

1B. Skewed text behind the character

Get the Scale/Rotate/Skew Mode in the Text tool [T] or Object tool [O] while choosing a text.

Skew the text using the sliders.

To "hide" the text behind the character, add a white fill layer using the Fill tool [G] or any tool you prefer.

The Enclose and fill tool [G] is a fast way to do this.

Turn on Border effect and erase any part you don't want.

Right-click the white layer to Create Selection...

1 - Invert Selection

2 - Choose the text layer

3 - Create Layer Mask

in that order.

A mask is attached to the text. Final result:

1C. Hand-written

There are many interesting brushes to write sound effects on Clip Studio Assets, such as these:

In this example I mixed hand-written sound effect with typed background for a haunting feel.

Tip: If your hand writing is not very good, try tracing a typed text.

1D. Decorate typed text

1 - Typed text (no border)

2 - Duplicate of text (with colored Border effect)

3 - Clipped tone/texture (with Layer color effect)

4 - Hand-drawn element (white line in example)

2. VECTOR SOUND EFFECTS (DESTRUCTIVE)

2A. Convert text to vector and Mesh Transformation

Right-click the text > Convert Layer... and choose Vector layer. Go to Vector settings... and lower the Correction number.

The vector layer contains only the outline.

Choose a brush you like. Go to Sub Tool Detail and Register to preset.

Now you can change the vector text's Brush shape and Brush Size as you like using the Object tool [O].

I rasterize the layer, using the G-pen to connect the missing lines then fill the text with black.

I like white text better here so I changed the color to white and change the Edge color to black.

To modify it further, I go to Edit > Transform > Mesh Transformation...

Bend the text as you wish. Result:

2B. Import vector text - Text on a curve

There are a lot of professional vector drawing software like Illustrator, Affinity Designer, Inkscape, etc. You can type the text, modify it there, turn it into vector outline then import it into Clip Studio Paint.

The text imported this way is sharper than when you convert into vector within Clip Studio Paint. You also have more ways to modify the text's outline (depends on your software).

In this example, I use a free apps on iOS and MacOS called Vectornator. It has the basic features found on most vector drawing softwares so you can use this as a guide for other softwares too.

Most vector softwares use Bezier curve, which Clip Studio Paint also has. You can see my old tip for reference:

Edit > Import > Vector... to import the vector file.

If you can't see the text, use [Ctrl + T] to move and resize.

Use Object tool [O] and modify the text's outline (Brush Shape, Brush Size, color, ...)

Create a layer below to fill the text's color using the Fill tool [G]. Add Border effect so the text can stand out.

Use the Vector eraser to erase the overlapping lines.

Finish:

2C. Merge letters

You may want your letters to merge together like the above, but if you convert inside CSP/import from other apps it will looks like the below example.

You can either use the Vector eraser or use the Boolean operation - Union - in another vector apps to merge the letters. Example in Vectornator:

Then decorate the text after imported.

How to make shrunken selection for the decoration above:

This fancy effect is suitable for colored comic.
