Cyberpunk Character Fashion Illustration
In this post I will share the process of creating a character focused illustration with the distinct looks of Cyberpunk. The whole look is inspired by a future society where high technology is the norms, body modification is widespread, and the line between human and machinery is blurred.
Starting with the sketch, I find it helpful to separate the body lineart with the modifications and accessories that you will add for the characters. Choosing a dynamic pose for character/fashion art is also preferable.
After cleaning up the sketch, I color in the base. I use the watercolor brushes because I would like to achieve a "transparent" look because despite having human skin this character has been modified inside out.
The main colors to emote a cyberpunk era are usually neon pink, purple, and blue. Some of the colors might be present in the human body normally due to veins and blushes, so it is fun to try to blend them while maintaining that contrast
Next is the accesories. The "punk" part of cyberpunk usually refers to a lot of accesories, showcasing rebellion, and a free independent spirit. This character has been branded defective, and is trying to break free from the society.
Accesories to consider are pins, needles, patches, and even stickers. The keyword is always contrast, so it should be whatever works to not blend in
For the background, here's how I draw the neon lights
I use Airbrush tool, use size 50 for the base color, size 25 for a color a bit darker, then 17 for the white. Any variation of size is okay, as long as the white stands out
And here goes the illustration!
I hope my process and tips on how I carry my process can be of use to you.
