How to make a Natural Scenery (EASY)

Tips to Make Natural Sceneries (Beginner Friendly) - Sunexiann

Hi ~ Welcome!

I'm Ani 🌷( Sunexiann )

In this blog we will learn how to do a Natural Scenery. I also made a Video Tutorial with the information summarized if you want to watch it! ♥️

Ok, let's begin!

First of all, we will start by planning our illustration, for that we are going to divide the canvas into nine equal parts, and depending on what we want to highlight, we will give it a strategic space.

If you want to highlight a specific element in the landscape, you should place it in one of the four points where the lines meet or you can also use one of the divided spaces. By doing this, it will not only be well placed, but it will also attract the viewer's eye more and your illustration will have a more cinematic and aesthetic touch.

It is not mandatory to do so, but many times this TIP can help give more meaning and a better finish to our drawings.

As on this occasion I seek to highlight the landscape in general, it will only be a guide.

Since I want to give prominence to the terrain of the landscape, I will make it occupy two thirds (2/3) of the canvas. The remaining space will be for the sky.

Now it is time to make the sketch and define the planes of our landscape. Each plane will help establish the general perspective of the painting.

Depending on what we want to highlight in the landscape, each plane will have a different color variation.

In my case, I am going to make three, and since I want to highlight the middleground, I am going to make the other planes stand out less. Even so, later, each plane will have small color variations.

Once the planes are defined we can start painting. I recommend that you use brushes with textures, this way you will achieve a more artistic and traditional effect, but that will depend on your style, so it's okay if you don't want to use them.

When we already have our planes with the desired colors, we can begin to apply more details in the areas that we want to highlight. I suggest you go little by little so that you don't oversaturate your landscape with details all at once. As we go little by little we can think and decide which areas are most important and deserve to be highlighted.

To make the clouds I used a brush with a soft texture, and I didn't make them very detailed since I don't want them to steal the attention.

For the trees, we need to make several species and vary the colors of the leaves, that way they will look more realistic. Make the vegetation in the background a lighter color than the rest and apply tones similar to those of the sky, so they will look further away and be better integrated into the environment.

Don't forget to add some illuminated areas in the trees to create depth and realism!

To make nature that is closer to the point of view or camera, I suggest you use some type of textured brush that simulates the leaves of trees and bushes. As these elements will be closer to the vegetation we made before, they should have more detail, in this way we will achieve the desired perspective, depth and realism effect.

Choose your favorite brush to make grass and start painting on the previously established planes, you can do it all on the same layer or do it on separate layers, I made the grass on separate layers because it is easier to edit it that way.

To make it look better, remember the perspective of your drawing, vary the size of the brush to make the closest grass large and the furthest small, the grass that is in the middle plane make it medium sized to create a good transition and perspective.

So that the grass does not look too stiff and structured, remember to break the pattern and make some grass blades of different sizes in various parts of the ground.

TIP (for Clip Studio Paint users): If you want to know if you are doing the right contrast, you can create a layer and put it on top of everything, paint it all black and put the layer in Color mode, so you will see your drawing in grayscale and know which areas need to be fixed. By doing it this way, you will not affect your illustration and you will be able to see how the different contrasts appear throughout your entire canvas.

To make the foreground, I'm going to use the same grass brush that I used before, as I don't want it to steal too much attention I'm going to make it not stand out much.

For the lake, make it the color of the sky, but a little darker and paint the reflection of the closest nature, such as grass and trees.

If you want, you can duplicate and vertically flip the areas of the landscape that will be reflected in the water. I recommend keeping the entire nature reflection on a single layer.

Deform the reflection a little in the form of small waves to simulate the movement of water.

In areas where the reflection of nature is darker, paint another reflection of the color of the sky on a top layer, keeping it a light color.

Go polishing the details and little by little rendering the most important areas of your drawing, adding details creating the final contrast to finish defining the landscape.

Don't forget to sign your drawing! 💖

And well. This concludes this video tutorial, I hope it has been useful to you and that now you can create beautiful natural landscapes.

Bye~ 💓
