Goal

To paint as fast as possible, you want to get rid of any superfluous interface. Ideally, you would only want to see a blank canvas and start painting on it.

In this tutorial, I want to show you how I usually configure Tabmate to speed up my paintings and a few other tips.

Configuring Tabmate

To configure your Tabmate, go to the "File > CLIP STUDIO TABMATE > CLIP STUDIO TABMATE settings" menu. You can create up to 4 configurations and switch to them by pressing the lower button of the Tabmate. For each configuration, the LED on the top of the Tabmate will emit a different color or intermittency. In the figure above, you can see the settings I use for my workflow.

The first setting ("Execution Tool Rotation") allows you to rotate the tool you want to use at any moment. The fewer tools you use, the faster you will be able to paint. In my case, I only need the Lasso tool, my custom brush for painting kids' books, and the move layer tool. The other settings are self-explanatory.

Extra tips

To get to the simple interface that I mention on the goal section, follow these steps:

  • Press the tab key to hide all menus.

  • Go to Menu > Window and uncheck "Command bar" and "Always show tab in canvas."

  • Finally, press the shift-tab key combination a couple of times.

Additionally, I use these other tricks quite often:

  • Press the D key and click on any part of the canvas to select the corresponding layer.

  • Enable the "Selection Launcher" on the view menu, and add items that I use often such as "Edit > Outline selection"

Video

In this video, you can see my workflow in practice. Make sure you enable the subtitles.

If the speed is too fast for you, change the play speed on youtube or check this other video which was not fast-forwarded.

I hope that was useful to you, thanks!
