Hello everyone, this is a tutorial on how to add comic sound effects in Clip Studio Paint. I will describe some useful ways to add sound effects using the Pen Tool and the Text Tool.

Adding Sound Effects using the Pen Tool

One way to add sound effects is by using the Pen Tool. First create a New Layer for your sound effects. I like to use vector layers for this but using raster layers will work to. To create a new Vector Layer, click on the [New Vector Layer] icon in the Layer Window.

You can also create a new vector layer by going to the [Layer] menu > [New Layer] > [Vector layer].

Draw or write the sound effects on the new layer. After you have added the sound effects, you can add a border by clicking on the [Border effect] icon under the [Layer Property] Panel.

Adding borders to the drawn shapes will make the sound effects easy to read and stand out.

You can also change the colors of the sound effects by alternating the text and border colors.

You can scale, move, rotate and distort the sound effect shapes by selecting the area you want to adjust and then go to [Edit] > [Transform] > [Free Transform]. Adjust the shape of the selected area by dragging or rotating the corners of the bounding box.

You can also adjust the shape by going to [Edit] > [Transform] > [Mesh Transform]. Drag the control points in the mesh bounding box to change the shape of the selected area.

Sound effects drawn by the pen tool will give your comics an organic and hand-drawn look!

Adding Sound Effects using the Text Tool

Another way to add sound effects is by using the Text Tool.

Select the [Text Tool] and click on anywhere in the canvas to add the text sound effect. A bounding box will be automatically created for you when you type in your text. You can also scale, move, and rotate the text by adjusting the bounding box.

You can create a text border for your text sound effect in the same way as above, by clicking on the [Border effect] icon under the [Layer Property] Panel.

You can also Rasterize the text layer by right-clicking on the layer and clicking on [Rasterize], or go to [Layer] > [Rasterize].

Rasterizing the Text layer will allow you to use [Mesh Transform] on the text, in the same way as the sound effects drawn with the Pen Tool.

You can also put layer texts behind pictures in your comic, by dragging the Text layer below other layers in the Layer Window.

Adding Transparent and Gradient Text Effects

You can create Transparent and Gradient texts to create interesting sound effects.

First begin by rasterizing the text layer, by right-clicking on the text layer and click on [Rasterize], as shown above. Then go to [Select] > [Select Color Gamut], and click on the color you want to select.

With the area selected, you can create transparent text by deleting or clearing the selection area.

With the area selected, you can create gradient text effect by clicking on the [Gradient Tool], select the [Manga gradient] sub tool, and apply the gradient over the selected area.

Adding Sound Effects using the Decoration Tool

The [Decoration Tool] can be used to add visuals of sound effects, such as musical notes.

Click on the [Decoration Tool] and under [Effect] select the [Musical notes] sub tool. Then click once on the canvas to add one musical note or click and drag on the canvas to add multiple musical notes.

Conclusion

Thank you for reading and I hope this tutorial was helpful to you in creating sound effects in your comic!
