Fashion is an important element of our characters, but do we still have to succeed in designing clothes? I share with you here my ways of drawing complex textures such as jeans, leather or sequins.

For this, the article is divided into 4 parts:

I. Create the basics of the clothes.

II. Faux leather pants.

III. Jeans.

IV. Sequin dress.

To your style!!!

I. Create the base of the clothes.

Even if here we are interested in the "texture" and not the "shape" we will like to see very quickly 2-3 tips for drawing clothes.

1. Our clothes are fabrics, they are fluid, ceased to draw them too rigidly.

2. As they are fluid, they hug the shape on which they are placed.

3. Do not neglect the "folds" they make everything more real.

II. Faux leather pants.

Catwoman wouldn't hug Catwoman without it in leather (yes faux leather she might be vegan 🤷‍ ♀ ️ ).

1. We choose the colors: black, dark gray, and white.

2. We paint all the pants dark gray.

3. We make the shadows in black, the most raised parts: the buttocks, the thighs, the calves must remain light.

4. With the blender, blur the lines.

5. With a white pen we just make small strokes, this is what gives this effect of lights, this "glossy" effect.

💡 These little "white lines" are also used to shine gloss, plastic, wet skin...

III. Jeans.

1. We choose the colors: a "desaturated" blue, ie which tends towards grey, a darker blue and a lighter one; then we paint all the pants with the "medium" blue.

2. We come to create the shadows of the folds and add volume with the dark blue and we blend with the blender.

3. With the "paint spray" in the "noise" setting and with the lightest blue we just put areas of light and add relief.

4. With the "mechanical pencil" in white color, we come to create "hatching" which gives this "jeans" aspect, we put areas of light and we come with the dark blue to make the "little strings" of the holes and from the ends of the legs.

💡 here I didn't like the black inking so I put a clipping mask on top of my inking file and painted with the darkest blue.

IV. Sequin dress.

To finish the dress with iridescent sequins.

1. We choose the colors: green (emerald), blue (king), green/turquoise (fairly light), black and white; then we paint the whole dress green.

2. To add volume and light, paint the darkest contours and spaces blue, then blend with the blender.

3. We repeat this step with black this time (this will accentuate the curves) but we must always see the blue!

4. To obtain the "glitter" effect, we take the "paint spray" tool in "spray" mode, we adjust the size of the pieces as well as that of the particles to have the size of glitter we want; we take the blue and we make a kind of gradient towards the green.

5. We repeat the step with the black and with the green, it must be harmonious, we can even take a color that is formed between blue and black or blue and green to accentuate the effect "degraded".

6. On the light areas we just "spray" the fairly light turquoise and lastly we do white sprays.

💡 For a luminosity effect, slightly enlarge the "spray" particles when adding the white spots, this compresses the glitter and makes everything more "shiny"

.

Here, I hope this has helped you, I made a video that I put in link, I'm still not very comfortable but if you speak French do not hesitate to go see it.

Keep practicing it's what makes us progress!
