When drawing lines and figures in Clip Studio Paint, using a Vector Layer is quite helpful. When using drawing tools such as pens, brushes, and graphics tools on a vector layer, the lines will be created in vector format.

What is a Vector layer?

While you cannot use colors or filters like you can on a normal layer (Raster layer), a vector layer is perfect for lineart.

Lines drawn on a vector layer can have their line type, thickness, and shape freely adjusted afterward. Line quality also does not diminish when scaled up or down.

Studio Mode

To create a vector layer, you can either go to the Layer menu > New Layer > Vector Layer, or select New vector layer from the Layer palette.

You can use drawing tools such as pens and brushes, or graphics tools such as the figure tool to render on the vector layer.

To change the shape or thickness of the line after drawing, try using the Object Sub Tool or the Correct Line Tool.

On vector layers, you can also use the Eraser Tool > Vector to erase up to where the lines intersect.

For details on how to use vector layers, please refer to this article.

Note:

Another useful feature to use on a vector layer is the Bezier curve, which you can draw by manipulating the handles.

Simple Mode

You cannot create or edit vector layers in Simple Mode. Please switch to Studio Mode to use vector layers.
