Activating your CSP Subscription Plan

Hello! My name is Liz Staley and I’m a long-time user of Clip Studio Paint (I started using the program back when it was known as Manga Studio 4!). I was a beta-tester on the Manga Studio 5 program and for Clip Studio Paint, and I have written three books and several video courses about the program. Many of you probably know my name from those books, in fact. I write weekly posts on and on CSP Tips, so be sure to come back every week to learn more Clip Studio Tips and Tricks from me!

Having Clip Studio available on your mobile device can be a great convenience, especially if you’re always on the go or have times where you’re waiting somewhere and want to draw for a bit. If you want to use CSP mobile for more than an hour a day, however, you need to purchase a subscription plan and then activate it. In this article we will go over this process, because it’s not entirely straight forward.

In this article we will cover the following topics:
Registering an Activation Code
Using an Activation Code

Let’s dive right in!

Registering an Activation Code

Activation Codes are different from Serial Numbers. A serial number is for a one-time purchase of the Clip Studio Pro or EX software. An activation code, however, is for CSP’s monthly plans. You can get either a serial number or activation code from but you will need to choose an activation code to use Clip Studio on mobile devices like iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.

Serial Numbers are 30 characters long, while an Activation code is 12 characters.

Once you’ve purchased an activation code at the link above and receive it at the email address entered during the purchase process, you then need to register that code. To start the process, go to this link:

Make sure you are logged into your CSP account before proceeding. If you don’t already have a CSP account, creating one is free and gives you access to a ton of cool stuff, including the Clip Studio Assets library. You will need to have a CSP account to proceed!

Type your activation code into the text box in the middle of the activation code registration page.

Click on the yellow Submit button beneath the text entry box.

On the next page you will see the details of the plan that you purchased. Review the details to make sure they’re correct.

Click on Next to continue. On the next page you will have to scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the “Available for this plan” box. This will have some details of your plan again. Click on Confirm to continue.

Finally we’re at the last screen of the registering process! Your order number will be on this page, but you should also receive this number in your email as well. If you are completing this process on the device where you’ll be using the subscription version of CSP, you can click on “Open Clip Studio Paint” to open the app to complete the next step. I completed this process on my PC, so I switched to my iPhone8 for the next section.

Using an Activation Code

I was going to show this process on both my iPhone and my Android tablet, but my tablet is too old to run CSP. The process should be the same between these devices however.

Now that we have our activation code registered, we can open our app to complete the process. Upon opening the Clip Studio app, find where it says “I already have a license” and click/tap on the “Log in to your Clip Studio account to start” button.

Log in to your Clip Studio account, the same one that you logged in to in the previous section. Then on the next screen locate your device plan and click on the “Activate” button next to the plan description. (Note that if you also have a serial number for a one-time purchase version of CSP associated with this account it will also be listed here but will not be able to be used on a mobile device.)

Click/tap on the Activate button.

You should see the following message.

Use the Launch button to launch the app and start using Clip Studio with your new plan!

The process of using an activation code is a bit different than the way that we usually think of when registering a software (just entering a serial number in the set-up and getting on with life!) but it’s not a hard process. It just requires a few extra steps to complete. Happy drawing!
