[Introduction]

This article is for those times when you have the following problems:

  • "I can't download Clip Studio Paint materials!"

  • "The brushes I downloaded from ASSETS don't draw the same way as the examples!"

It's a compilation of official Clip Studio Paint tips and FAQs, as well as information that I can explain to the extent that I can.

I have released around 100 Clip Studio Paint materials on CLIP STUDIO ASSETS, and I sometimes get inquiries like the one above.

I wrote this article to help you solve these problems as smoothly as possible, so that you can enjoy using the materials!

Of course, this article does not cover all possible problems, and some problems may depend on an individual's device environment.

If you have checked various things and the problem remains, please ask a question via ASK or contact official support.

Therefore, I would be happy if you thought of this article as a sort of checklist for when you want to research things on your own.

*As the author mainly publishes brushes and image materials, this article does not contain any information on 3D or pose materials. I apologize if you were looking for information on that.

[1] I can't download materials! FAQs to check first

When I receive inquiries about failure to download or add materials, the most common reasons are

An old version of Clip Studio Paint

The method of loading materials was incorrect

First, please check the FAQ below.

▼ Check the operating environment/network connection/Crysta version

▼How to properly load various materials

▼Other items to check

If the above FAQ doesn't solve your problem, please check the following:

1. Is there free storage space?

② Are you logged in to your Clip Studio account?

"Download failed. Please check your connection status."

"The specified material cannot be downloaded because it has not been purchased/obtained."

If the above message appears even though your connection is fine, please check your web browser login status.

If you are not logged in to either the web browser or the CLIP STUDIO app (or if you have acquired a different account and are logged in to a different account), the material download will fail.

3) Check your security software

This is an older case, but it seems that security software can sometimes cause material downloads to fail.

*We do not recommend changing security settings at your own discretion.

If this is likely to be the cause, it would be safest to contact official support and carefully review the response.

[2] If you can download it but can't add it to a subtool

① Did you update Clip Studio Paint successfully?

There have been cases where the version update was not completed correctly, resulting in failure to add materials.

If you're having trouble adding materials even though you were able to download them, please refer to this page.

2. Maybe it's an image?

Sometimes you may find yourself thinking, "I thought it was a brush material, but it's actually an image material."

Please check the "type" of the material you are trying to add in the material palette.

If the name or usage examples of the downloaded material say "brush," but only image material is included, the creator of the material may have registered the wrong material.

If this happens, please let the creator of the material know.

Below is a checklist for when you find yourself saying, "I was able to download the material, but it's not exactly how I used it!"

[3] If you have trouble drawing with a downloaded brush

If you're using a brush for the first time and can't use it as shown in the example, you'll probably end up thinking, "I don't know what I don't know!" I understand...

First, read through the "material description" and check how to use it.

Below are some common mistakes that beginners to Clip Studio Paint make. Please check them out just to be sure ◎

① Is the drawing color set to [Main color]?

"I can't draw!...But then I found myself choosing a transparent color. Hehe!"

It happens sometimes. I understand.

Select the main color (the black square in the image).

Also, some brushes use both the [Main Color] and [Sub Color].

▼If you select "white for both the main color and sub color" like this,

the line drawing and base color will be the same, and you won't be able to draw correctly.

Select a color that matches the brush you're using.

② Does the layer's expression color match the brush?

"I used a grayscale (or color) brush, but I was drawing on a monochrome layer."

This is common when drawing manga. You're surprised when it turns completely black.

Brushes have various characteristics, so there are also cases where you use a monochrome brush to draw on a gray layer.

Change the expression color to the recommended one in [Layer Properties].

3) Is the layer in a state where you cannot draw on it?

Specifically,

  • Layer mask

  • Layer lock

  • Layer hidden, etc.

You might accidentally hit it with the pen tip or press a shortcut key.

If this happens, you won't be able to draw with the brush, so please cancel it.

[4] If there are any display or drawing abnormalities, such as the brush turning into a black circle

  • A problem with the palette display

  • A problem with the material data

I think either of these is the cause.

If there's no problem with the canvas drawing, try "changing the palette display".

If the canvas drawing also turns into black circles,

① re-downloading the materials

② "rebuilding the material database"

③ reinstalling CLIP STUDIO
